I can use this Neural filter once or twice and then I start getting this error message. Works again a few hours later for one or two images. This question has been asked before and one poster said it was because the user didn't have enough ram. I have enough ram (64gb) and also an 8 gb gpu (but maybe that's the problem?) Any other ideas here. The other thread I found about this didn't help.
Thank you
LOL, saying thanks in June 2024. Was trying this one an old photo with two face. In order to get this to work move the slider for "enhance face" to the far left (so it's zero). After this, the fiter doesn't disable. Not useful if you want that feature, but useful if you want to remove scratches (like I did). Amazing something like this is known over a year ago and is still an issue.
Same case here. I was able to use it 5-6 times. Then "disabled" message started to popping up. Restarting Photoshop helped a few times, but then it stopped working all together (Mac Studio Ultra, 128Gb RAM here - so I highly doubt it has anything to do wtih RAM - esp. since Adobe says "WE've temporarily disabled..." Annoying very much!
In reading the posts, it sounds like Photoshop is going through a lot of computations to do the task and it get's bogged down. Try purging the cache and then let us know if you find that it helps or if you are still having the issue.
I tried that. The only thing available for me to purge was the "video". I haven't even used this version of photoshop for anything else, this was the first thing I tried, so there wasn't anything to purge. But, nonetheless, it did not work.
I have a problem with the Photo Restoration filter. I tried to restore some old photos - various file sizes, pds, tiff, jpg. On some of the photos the filter doesn't work and instead gives me a message "We've temporarily disabled this filter because of an error."
I've contacted an agent in support, and we spent over 1,5h trying to fix the issue - reinstalling and uptading graphic card drivers, photoshop, restarting the PC. Nothing helped. The filter just doesn't work on some photos, seemingly without a pattern.
The filter worked during the many hours I've spent using it after discovering it. It stopped working only at certain photos. I chatted live with a very helpful and kind consultant, who took control of my computer, tried restarting everything, installing new drivers ect. I sent him the files that the filter didn't work on, and it worked in his Photoshop. So it's not a matter of the specific files, or the filter being Beta in general (because it worked flawlessly at the consultant's computer). It's a bug that I was asked to report by the consultant I talked to. It's still not working.
I have the same exact problem, it worked for about 50 or so photos, the closed Photoshop and then I have this message since. Changed some parameters according to deiffferent forums, removed Beta, no difference, even change to larger sratch disk, whatever I tried, that plugin doesn't work anymore. Even with different contrast photos, even more sepia ones.
Just an update on my issue. I reinstalled PS Beta, Neural Photo Restore failed again, tried the colorization one, worked, tried Photo restore, worked. I alternated for about 4-5 photos and it worked, then again Photo Restore failed. Then I tried JPEGs with a maximum of 1000 pixel instead of CR3 or TIFF, it owrked for 4 photos, then again would not complete the task, one after another one or alternate with a different Neural filter. What deception.
I haven't had any issues in the past few months, but I've encountered quite a few cases over the years where Lightroom couldn't merge (whatever the projection) and Photoshop could, so unless the cause can be attributed to how the GPU is used in both applications or something else, I would say they are different engines.
What I do by default is merge in LrC, which is fine 99+% of the time.If it fails completely or gives an completely distorted and useless result, I try it in Photoshop (sometimes succesfully, sometimes not, which reminds me I should be more careful when taking pictures).
In my experience, when both LR and PS successfully merge, it's hard to tell the difference. That's why I first do the merge in LR, and only if I'm dissatisfied with the results, do I try PS. But maybe others observe something different.
LR's merge produces a 16-bit demosaiced DNG, while PS's merge produces a 16-bit TIFF/PSD in the Prophoto color space (similar to the color space used by LR), so both will have pretty much all the flexibility in further editing that the original raws do.
So if you want to still be able to apply raw-level adjustments after the merge, you must merge using Lightroom or Camera Raw, because they will give you a DNG raw file. Photoshop Photomerge gives you a layered non-raw Photoshop file that usually takes up a lot more storage space than a DNG panorama (another difference).
The DNG produced by Merge isn't exactly like an out-of-the-camera raw -- it's already demosaic-ed. It contains RGB pixels, 16 bits per color per pixel, just like the TIFF/PSD produced by PS. In general, the LR Develop settings behave the same on both sets of files. I'm not aware of any Develop setting that behaves much differently.
To do that set your Preferences in Lightroom to Open in Photoshop as PSD or TIFF (your choice neither is better). Then after carrying out your Lightroom Edits just use Ctrl+E and the image will open in Photoshop. You can now add layers and carry out further edits etc. You can either use Save
To do that set your Preferences in Lightroom to Open in Photoshop as PSD or TIFF (your choice neither is better). Then after carrying out your Lightroom Edits just use Ctrl+E and the image will open in Photoshop. You can now add layers and carry out further edits etc. You can either use Save (to save to the original folder) or Save As to save it to a new location. Either way it will automatically be added to the LR catalogue. No need to import, although you may need to change the filters in the library module in order to see it , if you saved to a folder not in the original library filtering.
A variation on the above is Lightroom's Edit in Open as Smart Object in Photoshop. That opens the image as a smart object layer in Photoshop. Double clicking on that smart object allows you to open the content with camera raw and make further raw adjustments. When done just Save from camera raw and you are back in Photoshop when all adjustments are complete use Save or Save As as mentioned above.
You asked about Lightroom's Edit Original/Edit a Copy and Edit a Copy with Lightroom adjustments. You should only see these on non raw files. As an example, lets say you have a TIFF in the catalogue. Lightroom can make adjustments to that TIFF. If you then choose Edit in Photoshop it will ask
a. Do you want to open the original - i.e. open the TIFF in Photoshop without those Lightroom adjustments. This will open the TIFF in Photoshop without the Lightroom adjustments which you can edit. If you click Save in Photoshop, the Photoshop edits will appear in Lightroom on that original file, and the LR edits will be reapplied. Those LR adjustments can be readjusted if required.
b. Do you want to Edit a copy. This will open a copy in Photoshop without any LR adjustments. When you make your edits in Photoshop and Save then close, the Lightroom catalogue will have a copy of the file with the Photoshop adjustments and the LR edits will be re-applied. Those LR adjustments can be readjust if required. Because this is a copy, the original will also be in the catalogue.
c. Edit a copy with LR adjustments. In this case the LR adjustments are baked into a copy of the image which is then opened in Photoshop. After making your Photoshop adjustments click Save and close. In Lightroom you will have the extra copy in the catalogue with LR and Photoshop adjustments, but this time those LR adjustments cannot be removed or readjusted as they were baked into the copy that was sent to Photoshop. However, because this is a copy, the original TIFF also remains in your catalogue.
Hi Dave. I found this reply and it seems to be the exact thing i'm running into. So when i close it out of PS, it updates into LR. But only if i do a couple layers. When i start to edit for a while and save, I wont get the same result and it will not update the photo stack in LR. Please help.
Im having somewhat of a similar problem. You have answered my question however I still dont see my photo pop up in lightroom. When I go from lightroom to photoshop, Im simply going to photoshop to remove color cast. After using layers, Im done and I try to go back to lightroom. I attempt to save the photo in photoshop but when Im asked to save it, it takes me to a pop up box that asks if I want it to be a zip file or not compressed at all or some other type of file. I choose zip (as it is ususally already selected) but then nothing happens in my lightroom. Ive chosen non compressed and nothing happens in my lightroom. I have edited a picture nearly 7 times and still not in my lightroom. I have uninstalled and installed both photoshop and lightroom and still nothing pops up in my lightroom. I have exited/completely closed photoshop and still nothing pops up in my lightroom. I am not sure what Im doing incorrectly. Or if maybe the way im saving it is wrong. No one else seems to have this extensive pop up box when they save in photoshop and go back to lightroom. I am in Adobe LR 5.2 and Photoshop 23.2 version. Im working on an apple mac air 2020 M1 chip. Please help!
