iLab’s Google Earth and Google Maps training
Please join iLab Liberia for its first Google Earth and Google Maps introductory training. The two-day training will be held October 26th and 27th from 4-6:30pm, and will be led by Lieutenant Colonel David Foster of UNMIL’s Joint Elections Operations Center, with assistance from Major Shubhangad Chhetri of UNMIL and iLab’s Carter Draper.
The first day will be dedicated to learning Google Earth using Liberia as a case study. It will be a mix of lecture and presentation as well as time for practice and experimentation. The second day will focus on Google Maps and how to add to Google Maps using Map Maker. A mapping party will follow the two-day training on Friday, October 28th for participants to test out their new skills (another email will soon follow explaining this event).
iLab would like to invite you to this event because you have previously expressed an interest in mapping technologies and/or your work is closely linked with geographical information tools.
Where: iLab Liberia, corner of 20th St and Payne Avenue on the beachside in Sinkor (apt 9 in yellow building)
When: Wednesday and Thursday, October 26 + 27, 4-6:30pm
Cost: free
**How to participate** respond to this email saying you will be able to attend the two-day workshop (participants are required to attend both days). The deadline for RSVP is Monday, October 24th, by 5pm. Space is limited to 15 people, so please respond promptly to reserve a place.
About Google Earth:
Google Earth is a virtual globe, map and geographical information program. Google Earth lets you fly anywhere to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings, galaxies in outer space and the depths of the ocean. With Google Earth, the user can explore rich geographical content, see 3D buildings and landscapes, visualize GPS tracks and more.
About Google Map Maker:
Google Maps are freely available online maps of different parts of the world. Map Maker allows everyday citizens to add points of interest to the map of their community, town and country. In some countries mapping data is unavailable, and so to combat this problem Google decided to open up Google Maps to a collaborative community effort in certain territories.
I am interested in the Training.
