I have a PreSonus Inspire interface, which worked fine for a while, then just quit. I tried everything I could think of, finally gave up and found a cheap Alesis USB interface, which works OK. Thinking that the Firewire connection and PreSonus mic preamps are higher quality, I bought a PreSonus Firebox on Kijij which I tried, to no avail. In both Presonus cases, the firewire light resolves to blue, indicating that the Firewire is synched. but I can't get any signal to pass to or from the computer.  With the Alesis USB, I just plug it in, and it works with GarageBand or Audacity. I also have Logic Express and Cubase LE4 - I've tried the earlier Inspire on both a G4 and a MacBook Pro. Pretty much the same results. Alesis USB works, PreSonus Firewire doesn't.

I'd like to resell the PreSonus boxes, but I feel I need some rationalization, in case the new buyer asks why I have these two pieces of equipment, but use a supposedly lesser quality unit. Do youse guys have any prior knowledge of bugs in the PreSonus/Mac interaction?

Yargh!

I went out and looked at what the net had to say on this -- I imagine you made exactly the same search.

It looks like it's common among PreSonus/Mac users that the interface just stops working!  I wish I had better news or info.

Ouch. Well, I suppose I should post them with the caveat that they're best used with a PC. Darn it! I really like the feel of that Firebox better, but if it doesn't work for me, it's junk, and I have plenty of that. If I can sell them, I can turn the cash into money toward a Fender Excelsior amp. I tried one out recently, and it's as nice to play through as the propaganda indicates. How rare! Halfway out of frustration, I hooked up the Alesis USB interface yesterday, and just like that, I was recording my little brain out. The 'low-latency' monitoring seems a bit flaky, but it does go ahead, so that's what I'll use. Thanks for backing me up on this.

Perhaps you should band together with other PreSonus users and smite somebody.
