How may I contribute as a programmer

I'm very interested in porting Paint.NET for the following reasons:
1. Paint.NET is my primary graphics editor
2. I use Ubuntu besides Windows XP, and I'm not used to GIMP
3. I've been writing C# programs (GUI intensive) for the past 3 years

So the question is, how may I contribute? Is there any "getting
started" or "faq" page that I can start with?
