Hello!

I'm thinking about using WCF in ASP.NET application (it should have
Mono compatibility) for AJAX callback method implementation. In MSDN
WCF is advertised as new cool and shiny way for doing things. I've
tried it on .NET and it works (approximately as in
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb924552.aspx). But in Mono
2.4.2 test application fails (looks like Mono does not generate
javascript file with service proxy classes, like Service1.svs/
jsdebug). I have not found a single word about AJAX and ASP.NET
support in the status info file wcf-status-200907.txt.
I need an advice:
1. Is this a bug that I should report or just a missing feature?
2. If it is a missing feature, are there plans for implementing it?
Maybe it is worth to mention it in status update.
3. Is it worth to use WCF for AJAX? Should I just stick to plain old
Web Services (I hope they work in Mono, but haven't tried it yet)?

Thank you very much for a great work you put into Mono, it really
helps.

Regards,
Dmitry

Hello,

I'm not sure how System.Web (ASP.NET) part of code is supported.
You might want to ask about it at mono-devel-list.
For WCF part, the simple HTTP binding operation shown in the
MSDN sample would work when it were hosted by standalone
ServiceHost. But service hosts through xsp or ASP.NET runtime may
not work. The corresponding code was written in 2006 and there
has been a lot of internal changes since then.

Regarding your question, 1/2) if there is a *simple* example that
I can try and fix the part above, then I'll try it a few hours to
fix it. For 3) it may work but still much unstable than our
ASP.NET core. Anyways it's not for those who prefer stable branches
than trunk.

Thanks, I'll conduct make a couple of experiments to make sure that
problem is not in ASP.NET AJAX support, and then make a simple example
for you.

Don't know how to make an attachment here, so I created a bug report,
see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=525575
If you'll be interested in it, please have a look.

Sorry for the late reply. I'll have a look next week. Let me
concentrate on NetPeer channel stuff that may result in good
progress this week.

No problem at all - there is no rush here :)
Thanks anyway.
