Dear Team Mono,

I am very excited to contribute in open source community through the platform of GSoC 2012. Last year, I contributed "Debugger Visualizers" to MonoDevelop (MD) and looking forward to work this year as well.

I have seen project ideas for GSoC 2012 at http://www.mono-project.com/StudentProjects#MonoDevelop. I am interested in "Web Tools" by improving ASP.NET support in MonoDevelop. The reason for my interest is that I have previously worked on ASP.NET related projects both in VB and C#. With this project, I want to develop my skills in ASP.NET MVC and to enhance MD learning.

I am writing you to let you know my understanding of the project and I would like your feedback on it. My understanding of the requirements is as follows:

"Make ASP.NET Awesome in MonoDevelop"

1. Improve exisiting ASP.NET support in MD

2. Add ASP.NET MVC support to MD

Could you please suggest the scope of this project? Also please share some pointers to start working with it?

Regards,

Rauf

Hi Rauf,
From the chatter I've heard about this today, improving ASP.NET involves getting the support in MD up to date and making sure it's a smooth experience for users. Things like ASP.NET MVC3 support, fixing bugs, adding features.

Since there's a big scope in this project, you can tell us in your proposal what you think would make it better in your proposal. What do ASP.NET developers do on VS that MD could do and doesn't? What are nice features to have? Are there long-standing bugs or requests in forums or bugtrackers that could be fixed and would really improve the ASP.NET experience in MD? This could be improving the coding experience, or the debugging experience, testing, designing, refactoring, the UI, etc, etc.
