Hello list. The first time I sent this email I put a period
rather than underline between monitoring and blind and it bounced
right back. I did so because one of the emails from the list had
a period there. Anyway, I am wondering if some people on this
list use a
screenreader like WindowEyes or Jaws with the PSR Edit program? I
have that software and download files a ham friend sends me to my
Psr-500
scanner. I would like to learn how to use or understand the
software better so I can edit or control the scanner.
Around here, our local police agencies are changing rapidly in
that they
have recently switched from an Edacs trunked system to the P-25
digital system which will eventually include much of the east bay
area near San Francisco. I have never been a fan of digital
public
service radio feeling that it is too complex for one and that it
is good to hear even a scratchy signal rather then nothing at
all. Well, if anyone would like to talk about the PSR
Edit program please contact me at jgam...@sbcglobal.net thanks
and happy scanning to all. Jim WA6EKS

Heyya & good afternoon there Jim.
I use PSR Edit & so does Ron. We also both use it with JAWS. There may be
another 1 or 2 who do as well. I can speak for or to what screen reader they
use with it. Ask your questions & we'll see what we can answer.

Hi Sean, I don't really have questions that come to mind except
when I am in the program. I think it would be best if we could
hook up via skype and be running the Psr software at the same
time. Thanks, Jim

Jim:
At some point, I'm sure that we can make that happen. I know that Ron & I
did that a couple of times when I 1st got the program up & running.
If you live in the East Bay. I'm assuming you're talking about in the
Oakland area. I have noticed recently when reading around on radio reference
that they'd switched or were in the process of switching to a P-25 system. I
spent many of my formative years out in that area as my step-father took a
job in San Francisco & he & my mom lived for a time up in Walnut Creek then
on up in Valleho. My sister & her husband just moved back to Tennessee from
out there. Many of my summer days were spent in Candle Stick or the Oakland
Coliseum.

Hi Sean, yes I live in El Cerrito, grew up in Walnut Creek.
Never got far from home. Yes, they just changed to the p-25
system here. I guess it's working but I need to use an outdoor
ham antenna to pick it up well. On its rubber ducky, I get some
transmissions which seem to be improving after a few weeks, but
there still seems to be a lot of missed traffic and garble on it.
My daughter does some video work for both the A's and Giants, and
back when they opened Pacbell Park, I played in a dixieland band
there called the Old Navy Splash Landing Band. That was fun, the
best of both worlds, music and baseball! Maybe we can work
something out regarding PSR Edit in the future. Take care and
best 73, Jim

Great to hear that Jim. Yes, I'm sure that we can get together soon. One
thing I can tell you with a P-25 system is this. They're very difficult to
pick up & keep a good signal on. One of the things I've had to do with ours
is. Program it in its own scan list & monitor only that scan list when I'm
listening to it. Crank the squelch on the unit wide open & that pretty much
does the trick for me. As most of the agencies in our area now use it. I
really do not miss much other traffic.

I already have the local p-25 system in one scan group and will
try the squelch trick to see if
that does anything to clear it up. Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim,
I know that Sean is burning the candle at both ends right now, so maybe you
and I can set something up in the next few weeks.

I think the coolest thing to do would be to call on SKYPE, then set up a
JAWS Tandem session so that we can go through the software together.

I look forward to talking to you soon.

Great idea Ron. Let's keep in touch on this. I have some gigs
where I will be away on weekends, but being retired, I don't have
a day job now so am around a lot. Jim WA6EKS. Look for Jgammon
in El Cerrito on skype and request authorization from me but let
me know your skype name if it's different then Ron otherwise I
won't know who you are. Thanks, Jim WA6EKS

Yes, great idea Ron. But don't count me out. I'd love to be involved
as well. Perhaps we can make this a group outing.

I'm intyersted in participating too, if I may. I use PSREdit with JAWS, and
I would be happy to contribute what little I know, and just as happy to
listen learn more.
