bufferMaxEntries value if I want to maintain buffer

Hi, I have two questions that I need suggestion on:

1. Is it good idea to have bufferMaxEntries value defined to have my application main buffer when a db connection drops.

2. If I have to define bufferMaxEntries value what value it can be and what can be the maximum value
