Hi All,

In summary from today's meeting we will be working to develop a short 4-5 PowerPoint presentation for next Monday (March 9th, 2015) to deliver to the Mongolian EITI Secretariat over Skype. Julian will work to coordinate a meeting time but it will likely be later in the afternoon (~6 pm).

To inform the presentation we developed a categorization scheme in class, which Jon will post in Google Docs. Each of us is tasked with populating the document with our countries info. As discussed in class place your country under the appropriate categorization or give it the appropriate rating. Feel free to use footnotes to explain your classification. Also, start to look at patterns evolving between countries within the classification and prepare to bring forward any findings for discussion on Friday.

Friday March 6th we will have a meeting at 9 am on the main floor of C.K. Choi Building. This meeting will be used to frame findings and develop a PowerPoint presentation. The Monday meeting (March 9th 1:30-3:30 pm) will be used to finalize the PowerPoint presentation.

See you Friday!
Stephanie

Hi everyone,

I'm very excited to meet tomorrow and discuss the outcome of our data categorization. Thanks Jon for uploading the file! I finally had a chance to insert my data, apologies for doing it so late. For the ones who still have time to put it in until tomorrow, you can find it here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Yz5WWFQqLPdCqUYtKWQ4y1Wj3MBo1NubB0hezbTu1hY/edit

‎Good morning!

On my way - might be five minutes or so late due to morning traffic.

Thx. Carlos

Hi all,

I made some changes to the document (category clarification but  basically just to make it less messy) based on today's meeting and my notes. Feel free to make more edits and look forward to arriving at some conclusions from our case studies.

Cheers,
Lotus

Hi all,

Lotus, thanks for updating the document. I just finished reviewing it and added to it where necessary including revising it slightly.

I noticed that we still didn't address Jocelyn's observations regarding direct / indirect access to extractive revenue and the subnational initiatives (evidence) scale to make it less subjective. A few days ago I had uploaded a revised Word document, entitled "UBC Mongolia Country Categorization v.2," that addressed these items but I can no longer find it in our folder. Unfortunately I neglected to make a copy of it... At any rate we should consider reviewing these two items.

In case it interests some, I have enclosed a PwC report that outlines a summary of the  corporate income taxes, mining royalties and other mining taxes for quite a few countries.

I also had a cyber chat with Stephanie regarding what was covered on Monday and if people have time we can meet again on Friday morning (Thursday morning and over the w/e also works) to work on the educational package and to also look into creating the stickers.

Thanks,
Carlos
