File storage gridfs

I am struggling to find a way to upload files to mongodb with the metadata as an embedded document. If I use the file field I get 3 collections: collection_name, collection_name.files and collection_name.chunks, but I would like to ONLY have files and chunks (to keep it with the same structure that already exists for other data), and that the metadata from the files collection is defined in mongoengine.

Is it possible or do I have to code it myself using pymongo and gridfs?
