Getting "locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid" error when trying to start mongod

I'm having this error after the server where mongo is located shuted down unexpectedly. Before this it was working.
Now, when I try to start mongod I get:
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
what(): locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid
Even if I run "mongod --version" I get the same error

I think we just discussed this on IRC. For the reference of everyone else, the fix was to set the LOCALE with locale-gen and then log out and back in (if I have that right).

Not actually a problem with mongodb per se, but figured we should share in case anyone else runs into it.
