Hi All,

The production notes for MongoDB state...

With the WiredTiger storage engine, use of XFS is strongly recommended to avoid performance issues found when using EXT4 with WiredTiger.


Can anyone provide any more information about this? What are the performance issues? Would you say never deploy WiredTiger on ext4 or are the certain situations where it is ok?

It's okay in many or maybe even most situations but ext4 journaling may cause a very heavy write load to stall (in some cases for many seconds) during fdatasync phase during check pointing.  

We should probably add more details to the docs, but I would say that this recommendation is targeted at heavy write load systems with low latency requirements.
