Dear community, I need some help here. Any leads will be greatly appreciated!

Our mongo DB encountered a crash couple days ago and after it was restarted, all the data disappeared. I still haven't figured out how those data was deleted or overwritten. Journaling has been turned on all the time. FYI, our mongo DB is not running a replica set and its version is 2.4.9. The instance is running ubuntu on AWS.

From the logs, this is the error that seems to cause the crash:
dbexception in groupCommitLL causing immediate shutdown: 13516 couldn't open file /data/mongodb/journal/j._1 for writing errno:2 No such file or directory

BTW, after some google search, I found this JIRA ticket very interesting.

I believe you have the cause and effect backwards.

Something or someone deleted or removed your mongod's dbpath aka data directory.  That's why it crashed - its files were gone.

It's exactly what happened in the ticket you linked: "Testing framework was deleting the data directory from underneath the mongod"
