Hi there

I'm just gettin started with DB, so I don't really have a lot of
knowledge yet...

I just want to know if it is possible to set up a MongoDB online on my
webhost.
The aim would be to set up this database and access it from different
computers to store some data (kind of an archive of documents, which
would be accessible for everyone having some password etc.)

I know that normally webhosts provide one or several mySQL DBs , but
they sure dont provide Mongo DB.
How can I set up an online MongoDB instead??

I would really be glad to get a hint here.
In my literature they're just talking about setting up a DB in a local
environment...

Thx

You can run mongod on just about any box.
You run it the same way, just connect over the network.

Web hosts that support MongoDB out of the box are quite rare. Most
have a (somewhat expensive) VPS option which gives you a virtual
machine where you can install mongo or any other software.

Probably easiest would be to use some MongoDB hosting service. See
database-as-service at http://www.mongodb.org/display/DOCS/Hosting+Center
for pointers (I don't have experience on any of those).

mongohq.com and mongolab.com are the market leaders. Go with one of them, you will be happy.
