Hi,

https://www.mongodb.com/products/subscriptions

It isn't really clear what the subscription price is based on. (per CPU?, per MongoD/S instance? etc.) Or in what intervals they should be paid. Monthly? Yearly?

It would be nice, if the subscription costs would be a bit more transparent.:-)

Scott,

If you click on the link to "Pricing Schedule" (bottom of the page you referenced) that has *all* the details.

In particular, it lists as clarifying points:

  • Only data-bearing (i.e., mongod) nodes require subscriptions; nodes for routing and configuration (i.e., mongos, arbiters and config servers) do not require subscriptions.
  • Each subscription covers a single server (i.e., mongod) with up to 512GB of RAM.
  • Subscriptions are counted per physical server except in public cloud systems where they are counted per virtual machine.

HTH,
Asya

Thanks Asya,

I still think the terms could be a bit more transparent. Some suggestions.

1. Link the prices to the "small print" or do a footnote and have that information on the same page.
2. Add the subscription payment period next to the price. i.e "$7500.00/ year" I can only assume it is yearly. The payment period isn't mentioned in small print either. (I hope it is yearly. Or is it a one time price? That would be even better.:))
3. Link to the actual Master Reseller Agreement. I'd like to study it, before I start asking more stupid questions.;)
4. Wouldn't there be some sort of SLA too? I mean there is mention of support response times. I'd link to that too, as I am sure there is one and I'd love to read it too.

Also, one last stupid question :-), which I'd probably get the answer with reading the MRA, but what is a Reseller exactly? I mean, is it someone who is offering services to support MongoDB and the non-open source versions or is it someone who sells instances of the database to others as a service (and supports them)?

Scott,

These questions would be more appropriately directed to our sales folks.

Thanks Asya. Could you, however, help me out and do me the really nice favor and pass on the link to this thread to someone you know in Sales? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!:-)
