Hi,

Windows 7 is really old. It likely is riddled with security vulnerabilities too. You should upgrade to Windows 10 in 64 bit (x64) mode. Or use 64 bit (x86_64) versions of Linux.

Bob,
FYI Microsoft official end of support for Windows 7 is  January 14, 2020. Until then MS provides security patches for Win7

Sakhawath,
1st. Most likely you laptop will not support Windows 10 x64

2nd. There are some reasons why MongoDB and Compass are only available for 64-bit operation system.
Mainly it is memory access and manipulation. For MongoDB University you will need 64-bit operation system (Windows, Linux or Mac). And I took almost all free classes - there is no way around it AFAIK.

I am not 100% certain of every point but I think continued security patches for Windows 7 are only available to commercial accounts and only for the Professional or Enterprise editions of the operating system. The original poster didn’t say if he has one of those editions. My employer has mostly migrated our entire enterprise to Windows 10.

I only use 64 bit Linux and OS X in my other life.

Most modern laptops can support 64 bit operating systems. By that I mean laptops built in the last 7 or so years. You’d be surprised.

Thanks

To correct myself a little bit, Microsoft certainly offers extended support for Windows 7 until 2020, but it appears to be tied to the service pack level that is currently being supported by the company. It does apply to business, developer, and desktop operating systems. I assume that Windows 7 Home Edition, for example, is covered under this (if you have the latest service pack?)

As to the company's providing security updates, notice the third bullet point from the top of the web page. It is all a bit iffy for their older operating systems, and Windows 7 certainly has gray hair. We must not expect clarity from Microsoft.

With the above noted: I agree entirely that if one wants to work with databases, it is absolutely essential to get on a 64 bit operating system. Select an operating system which is supported by the database vendor. There is plenty of choice these days, and Linux is a free operating system.

The other thing I would mention is that the original poster can check if the laptop in question has a 64-bit capable processor. Just about all processors today do have 64 bit support and Intel offers virtualization extensions as well. If the processor supports 64 bit, then just remove the current hard drive (with Windows 7 installed on it), slot in a brand new hard drive, and go right ahead and install Linux or 64 bit Windows 10. I think some products from MongoDB such as Charts are only supported on Windows 10.

Thanks so much

Hello,

Thanks a lot for reply.
Actually the Laptop, I am using, is provided by company and unfortunately i cannot change that suddenly.
that is why I needed help. I cannot use another Laptop at this moment.
May be I can use Vmware in this Laptop and install Linux and afterwards use MongoDB.
that could be a solution. if you have any other better solution, please suggest.

Thanks once again..

I suggest you obtain a second computer with a good processor and a 64 bit OS. Use it for MongoDB training.

Sakhawath,

I really doubt VMware will be able to run 64 virtual machine under 32bit windows.

Getting second computer is a good option, I hope you can find the solution.
You need 64bit operation system, good internet and memory to complete classes at MongoDB University
Good luck!
