Mongodb Installation Failed for missing dll

Spec : Win 8.1 Enterprise /64 bit O/s , mongodb-win32-x86_64-2008plus-ssl-3.5.6

Unable to start Mongodb for the reason in pop-up message

    "The Program can't start because of MSVCP140.dll is missing from your computer.

 What would be the reason for the message ?

 Do i need to dwnload and copy MSCVP140.dll to what folder ?


Need some help.

Hi Karthik,

Are you running Windows on a virtualisation platform (i.e. XenServer) ?

Try installing Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows first. This may be caused by your Windows OS missing an update patch.

If you still have the issue after the above attempt, could you please try installing MongoDB v3.4.x (current stable version) and see whether the issue persists ?

I have been running MONGO 3.0.12 successfully on my Office system [ I cannot upgrade these System for same ]

For the Same reason I m not able to upgrade to 3.5.6 (latest)


   "The Program can't start because of MSVCP140.dll is missing from your computer.

Are there any other options for installation of these DLL ?

Hi Karthik,

You can also try to download and install Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 to see whether it resolves your issue.

If you’re unable to update your Windows Systems, please contact your Administrator regarding the issue.

As this question related more to Windows Operating System, you can try posting a question at Microsoft Community forum to reach wider audience.
