help !! please Mongod.exe Console closes down as soon as it starts up

I am a novice  to MongoDb

On clicking on Mongod.exe, the console closes down as soon as it starts up

My operating system is  Windows 32 bit Vista Home premium v6  with sp2
I have been using mongodb 2.2.3 but installed mongodb 2.4.9 when this problem arose

All had been working well with both mongod.exe and mongo.exe (2.2.3) for  3 weeks. Then suddenly, when firing up mongod.exe by double clicking  the icon in the directory , the console closes as soon as it starts up

Using the Windows command console starting  - mongo 2.2.3 I get immediate shutdown of mongo with this as the seeming diagnosis

 And using mongo 2.4.9 ,I get in the command console

The trouble now is at http://dochub.mongodb.org/core/repair redirected to https://wiki.mongodb.com/login.action........ I am expected to log in - but being new to Mongodb I have never registered so I cannot log in and there is no way to register!!

How should  i proceed?

Hi Mario,

The error here ("cannot find the path specified... ") suggests that the directory c:\data\db\ doesn't exist or isn't readable by mongod.exe. Did you perhaps previously start mongod.exe with a different --dbpath for your data files? Can you confirm that c:\data\db exists and has your MongoDB data files?

The dochub redirect is incorrect and will be fixed; you shouldn't be required to login. The intended destination page is: http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/tutorial/recover-data-following-unexpected-shutdown/.

Note: instead of clicking on mongod.exe to launch, a more convenient approach is to configure MongoDB as a Windows service:
