That does mean the mongod server is running so don't worry about that stopping after that line. It will only continue to write to console on new connections or OPs.

but it seems you need to change how your mongo console connects to MongoDB, it is waiting for connection on 28017 not 27017.

My command line was invalid. Fixed that and it worked fine. Followed step by step mentioned here.
