Hi All,
I've been making some tests with this Proxy Client: hxxp://www.proxycap.com/
It seems that proxy'ing traffic through this app isn't picked up by the ESET Firewall.
The app install's a service: C:\WINDOWS\system32\pcapsvc.exe which run's as LocalSystem.
My ESET FW config is setup in "interactive mode" so that anything that isn't part of the FW config would popup a dialog box asking what to do with the new connection.
Hi there,
Maybe my explanations weren't clear enough. After having installed ProxyCap and inserted some proxy server in there + setup some applications to proxy rules, ESET Firewall doesn't acknowledge any connections happening within ProxyCap.
My setup is fairly simple, I've deployed a shadowsocks server on a DMZ seated Linux host and configured that proxy within my Windows based ProxyCap (Windows host seated in another network zone. running ESET Internet Security).
Would you perhaps know if ESET is planning for a slightly more advanced Firewall rules GUI configuration pane? I'd love a "rules search" feature and perhaps a "current connections" status. Aside of that, the ESET host based FW rocks !
Kind regards, HNY !
Actually you can use fiddler. You see, fiddler configures the winINET proxy to go through it (the one used by internet explorer and all other microsoft software, but sometimes even third pary software uses winINET proxy config - that is why some programs just magically work with fiddle). Some programs ignore wininet config completly and have their own method of setting a proxy (like firefox, chrome). And other programs, like bluestacks, have no support for proxy at all.
But you can force BlueStacks to go through the fiddler proxy. A tool which can do that, and which has a tutorial on this, is ProxyCap: use 127.0.0.1 as server and 8888 as port number in configuration of the proxies in proxycap. You must also add HD-Agent and HD-Frontend executables in the rules, as specified in the last part of the step-by-step guide.
Unfortunately, proxycap is a 30 day trial. You can use free proxifiers out there. Find something that supports http. _of_proxifiersI did manage to make this work with proxyCap myself and haven't tried anything else yet.
Today I tried Fiddler - ProxyCap - BlueStacks. It didn't work at first. After I added "HD-Plus-Service.exe" everything was Okay. It seems like new bluestacks versions don't use HD-Network.exe? Anyway my program list includes:
If your Internet application does not support any proxy settings, you can useProxyCap. It redirects the traffic of e.g. the Flash player, Java applets and other Internet applicationsto JonDonym. This will change your IP address and you can stay anonymous. But bear in mind that you must usually use a premium service as these applications often deploy protocols that use other ports than 80 and 443 that are allowed on free cascades.
You can download ProxyCap from proxycap.com for Windows and MacOS.The website offers a free 30-day trial version. If you like the tool you can buy a license key. Please, support JonDonym and buyProxyCap here (JonDos gets 20% of the revenue).
Configuration of ProxyCap needs two steps. At first you have to configure a proxy and afterwards you have toadd a rule for each program you want to use anonymously with JonDonym. Please note: You only may change the settings of ProxyCap while being an administrator. If you have already started ProxyCap as normal user without such privileges you have to close it using the Task Manager and log in yourself as administrator.
Afterwards you may add rules for the applications you want to use anonymous. You may add aTubeCatcher (a tool for download and watching YouTube videos) or any other application without proxy support or with broken proxy support.
Within the "Rules" window you may add (these) programs and decide how the are anonymized. Sinlge rules may be activated or deactivated. Is a rule deactivated are the applications depending on it used without anonymization and the rule is greyed out (in the example: Steam).
Klick on the "New" button marked in the screenshot. It will open a wizzard for setting up a new ruleset. Using the ruleset for java.exe the following screenshots show the settings in the different tabs.
Hint: Please, keep in mind that all Firefox traffic will be anonymized using the above settings. This is even the case if you deactivate the anonymization within the proxy configuration of Firefox itself. It could therefore happen that the plugins are not working properly if JonDo is not running or if you are using the free services as they do not offer SOCKS-Support.
It looks to me like you set something up wrong in proxycap. I don't currently use proxycap and therefor I do not have any license for it. So I can't test out. Have you tried google with that error it spits out?
I googled "Connection not allowed by ruleset (2)". The very first hit comes with the answer. ?
It's because you have forgot to change your proxy type to socks instead of http.
I believe it's been discussed in this thread somewhere earlier that it HAS to be socks5, not http, otherwise you are not routing around the protocol and it would be the same as connecting without a proxy (risking to get all your accounts connected) however luckily for you it seems that the current version of ProxyCap throws the error "Connection not allowed by ruleset (2)" instead of you routing you through. ?
