You've taken great pictures on your digital camera or smartphone, but how do you save them on your laptop? The answer lies in memory cards. They're a widespread, useful storage medium for transferring photos, video and other files from one device to another. For digital cameras, SD and CompactFlash remain popular memory card formats, while the smaller Micro SD has become the standard in smartphone storage. The simple directions outlined in this article will make the memory card transfer process quick and easy.
I upgraded to a new Windows 10 PC recently, but now I can't figure out how to import pictures from my SD card. On my old PC, an AutoPlay window popped up as soon as a card was inserted into the computer's card reader and asked what I wanted to do with the pictures on the card, (import images / open file to view the contents etc.) but the AutoPlay window doesn't appear now and I can't figure out how to import the images. If I go to my device manager/This PC, it shows the SD card as an additional drive (not as a memory card) and I can copy and paste the images from there if I have to, but I'd rather import them properly, rather than copy them, to retain the quality.Any help would be appreciated.
That "import" dialog box you were seeing before doesn't really do any magic. It just launches a program like Lightroom or some other photo manager, and that program's "import" operation copies the files from the card. This fundamentally no different from copying the image files by dragging them or using the file-manager's "copy-paste" commands. There will be no loss of image quality either way.
Updated to Eos Utility 3 on a Mac 10.9.4 using either a 5d or 6d with a USB cord. I can' find where in EOS Utility I can set it to record the file both to the laptop as well as in camera cards(CF or SD)? There is not the normal check box under Remote Shooting in the preferences .
Are there Canon Techs that browse this board - I know it's a simple question but I just can not figure out how to have the file saved on both the laptop as well as the Camera's card simultaneously using Eos Utiltiy 3
Deleting data from Memory Card can be time taking as you need to make a backup of your data on your PC/Laptop so that anytime you can get back your files whenever needed. I too once had to delete data from the memory card as it got corrupted.
After 1 day of usage, I went to copy the files from the memory card to laptop. I removed the card and inserted it in my laptop card reader and there were no images or folders, except the older image folders from previous Canon G1X and a folder called EOSmisc in the main DCIM folder. I couldn't locate the folder with the new files. The card is almost full and I can view the images taken in the camera preview mode. So where are the files to copy from card?
1. You are using some photo application to view the contents of the card. It is getting confused by the presence of the G1X photos and so is not even looking for the 750D photos. If this is the case, you might still be able to see the 750D photos in Windows Explorer or the Mac OS X Finder.
2. The 750D photos are present but are in the same directories as the G1X one. Directory and file names in the standard DCIM arrangement are not exactly user-friendly, so you may have to open / preview all of the files to sort out the 750D photos from the G1X ones.
Swapping memory cards between cameras that haven't been programmed to use different file prefixes can cause much confusion, especially when a card was supposed to be empty and it is suddenly found to be full and you don't know which files are new and which can be deleted.
You can upload, view, and back up your photos from an SD card or USB device with Google Photos. If your photos are on an Android device, iPhone, or iPad, you can back up your photos to Google Photos directly from the device.
We recently replaced our old HP Photosmart 7350 with an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A. On the old Photosmart, when I inserted my camera memory card into the printer, it automatically initiated a dialogue to save the photos onto my computer hard drive. But on the OfficeJet Pro, when I insert the memory card it only asks about printing the photos. Is there a way to transfer the files on the memory card to my computer so I can save them and/or edit them before printing? Help! My photo files are stacking up and I don't have a way to store them on my hard drive!
I have an HP6500A printer - I put my photo memory card in it and all I can do is view and print pictures - how do I transfer them to trhe IMac computer I have. I can scan and print from the computer but can't transfer pictures.
I'm just an average, every day person - not a tech guru. I don't have a usb cable. I didn't connect my printer that way - I don't want to connect it that way. It was hard enough getting it to work across all the computers in my house using an ethernet connection. NOT being able to read the pictures on the memory card in the printer from my computer with that connection is a poor design on HP's part in my opinion.
Note: When you are looking for the memory card in the list you will find it listed under the Network Hardware (Mac) address instead of the Hardware (Mac) address of the printer. Refer to my screen shot below.
Once you click on Memory_Card to view the files on the card, the computer/printer/memory card will be moved to the top of the list under the Shared category on the left Navigation Panel. As long as you don't disconnect, this should remain at the top of that list for easy access until you reboot your Mac.
I recently took a whole bunch of photos on the X-S10 and when I put the sd card ( Lexar premium series 64GB SDXC U1 10 ) in my iMac, they didn't show up on any programme that I tried to open them in, - Lightroom, Exposure X6, Luminar, Fuji Raw studio, Apple photos etc. BUT, they did show up on the camera. Oddly enough I was able to transfer the jpegs via wifi to my ipad pro using Fuji Cam Remote. Is this a common occurrence? I've heard something similar has happened with other Fuji cameras such as the XT-20. and x100V. My solution thus far, has been to reformat the SD card IN the camera and I'm hoping it doesn't happen again. ( after reformatting, they are now showing up in camera and in the various programmes - both jpegs and raw) Anyone have any experience of this ? Or found some setting I may have to change.
Yes, for the most part that works with all the images on my card that it recognises. All the programmes I open the xs10 files in recognise the raw files are there, but just can't preview them or convert them. What I'm talking about is a whole series of images do not show up anywhere as being on the card, from one day to the next. All the previous raw and jpeg files are there, and can be seen and found, and imported ( if not converted ) The images that could not be seen by my mac or any software, where still to be seen when I previewed all the images in camera. They could not seen anywhere else other than in / on the camera itself. They were not even seen by my ipad pro 2020 in Files when the sd card reader was attached. Every other previous image was there - except the ones that weren't ! As I said, I transferred the ' non visible' jpeg's via wifi to my ipad and I managed to save the images. But i hope this doesn't happen again. It's the first glitch I've ever really had with a Fuji camera this far. Though I found another one tonight. I was shooting in filter mode using the soft filter to shoot a christmas tree reflected in a window, and the camera just got stuck in that mode. All the dials stopped working and the image froze on the screen - then after about 30's of switching out of scene / filter mode and back - it sprung back to life. I was using the 23mm 1.4
Hi, I didn't try silkypix, but they didn't show up in Studio Raw either. The problem was, they showed up in camera, but as soon as I plugged the sd card into any software on my mac, the images -raw or jpeg - from that shoot didn't show up anywhere, so I couldn't import them at all. There was nothing to import. I did wifi them across to my ipad pro straight from the camera using Cam Remote from Fuji. It's all very strange.
I ran into this exact same problem as Jomo, but on my X-T3 recently. 400+ photos from a recent photo shoot were showing up on the camera, but when attempting to read the SD card on the Mac, none of the newer raw/jpeg images showed up for importing via Apple Photos, Image Capture, etc. and I also tried accessing directly on the Finder and via Terminal, but the files were not there either. I also tried to load the SD card on a Windows laptop as well, with the same issues (older photos visible, but none of the new ones). The 400 photos could only be accessed via the camera.
After turning the camera on and off a few times, the 400+ photos from the photo shoot have now completely disappeared from the camera entirely, and I did not have the opportunity to import the photos via the Cam Remote app. My hunch is that the photos were cached on disk somehow, and the cache was wiped out after a few system boots.
