A watch is something that displays time and sometimes day, date,
month and year also. The word watch is used a short form of
wristwatch, which is a name for timekeeping devices worn on the wrist.
It is very true that in early days that watches did not exist and
therefore devices were used to measure and keep track of time. The
period from 1500's to 1575 is considered to be the great age of
advancement and innovation in watches. The Egyptians of those old days
divided the day into two 12-hour periods, and used large obelisks to
track the movement of the Sun. The first watch was invented by Peter
Henlein in 1504 in a place called Nuremberg in Germany. The person who
was reported to be the first one to wear a watch on the wrist was the
Blaise Pascal who was French mathematician and philosopher, and that
was in 1623-1662.

Today, wristwatch is the most common type of watch and it is worn on
the wrist. The watchband of these watches is usually made of leather,
nylon, plastic, metal links or ceramic which is used to fasten it.
Wristwatches became more popular during World War I, when officers
found them to be more convenient than pocket watches in battle.
