In the most competitive selection process in FIFA World Cup history, Boston was selected from a field of 22 finalist cities across Mexico, Canada and the United States. Gillette Stadium will serve as the venue for all matches hosted in Boston. FIFA evaluated each candidate host city based on city and state infrastructure, transportation (airports, train, roadways), human rights, stadium infrastructure, fan fest locations and training sites. The Boston Soccer 2026 committee who worked on the united Boston bid consists of representatives from the City of Boston, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau, Greater Boston Sports Partnership, Kraft Sports & Entertainment and the New England Revolution.
The biggest leap this year will be a single-unified-layer capture/transmission workflow for UHD/HDR coverage of all 64 matches. In 2018, a multilateral, dual-layer approach was required, but advances in technology will allow all formats to be integrated into a single workflow, greatly streamlining operations and setup.
At the core of live content distribution are the multi-feeds allowing FIFA to provide a wide range of match, pre- and post-match, and other content to rightsholders. Multilateral feeds and selected isolated cameras will also be available in different formats, including 12G-SDI UHD/HDR BT.2020 at 2160p/50 for selected isolated cameras and the Extended Stadium Feed. All multi-feeds will be available to rightsholders in 3G SDI-HDR (BT.2020), 3G-SDI SDI (REC.709), and HD-SDI SDI (REC.709). Each one will have up to 16 embedded audio channels.

For the first time in history, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be played in three countries: Canada, Mexico and the United States. Atlanta is among 11 cities in the U.S. selected to host matches. The other U.S. cities are Seattle, San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami and New York/New Jersey. The cities that will also host during the month-long tournament are Vancouver and Toronto in Canada and Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey in Mexico.
