You most likely have come across the range of Summa flatbed cutters and Summa vinyl cutters AirMark has to offer. Summa plotter cutters are renowned for their incredibly precise cutting. But what are plotter cutters, and how do they work?

Once your design is ready to go in the accompanying software, it is sent off to the cutter. It is here that the motors and gears cut through the material. Because plotter cutters have motors that move along both the x-axis and y-axis, there is a wide range of flexibility and freedom when it comes to cutting designs. All of these options mean that nearly anything you can imagine is possible!

There are two types of plotter cutters: flatbed cutters and roll-fed cutters. Flatbed cutters, like the Summa flatbed cutter, can be used on more rigid materials, like metal and acrylic. Roll-fed cutters, on the other hand, are designed to be used on more flexible materials, such as fabric and vinyl. Unlike flatbeds, roll-fed cutters push material to the cutting blade through the rollers.

So I just got a CE-6000+ and there is a software tool called Remote Panel Utility. It's my understanding this tool will let me adjust all the settings that you would adjust directly on the plotter. When I run it, it sees my plotter but when I tell it to connect I get an error message saying that it could not connect to the cutter. Anyone with a CE-6000 use this tool? Does it even work with this plotter? Everything else seems to work as it should and I'm guessing I don't really need this ability since I can control Speed/Force through the Graphtec Studio Cutting View. I'm curious whey it doesn't work though.

Sounds like another name for Graphtec cutting controller. It looks to be on Cutting Master 5. For CE7000 and FC9000. If you go into Legacy cutters and choose CE6000, there is a driver for Windows Controller, to run from your PC. The cutter must be sitting there ready to cut, on mine it will error and not do anything, if not ready to cut. Those changes will show up on your cutter screen. I have it for my FC7000, Yours may be a bit different. In my cutter menu. I run PROGRAM, not changes on my cutter it's self. My cutting software is Flexistarter and I run on HP-GL command. (I don't change anything on my cutter) All done on my computer. Force/speed etc. I only cut sign vinyl and a little chrome. You may be able to find a user manual for the Cutting Controller, or more info on youtube for it. I know the cutting controllers are totally different from my FC7000, to the one on the FC8000. Pretty sure CE5000 and CE6000 are different also.

Thanks. Tried all that and it never came up. The firmware updater doesn't seem to work either, says it can't find the cutter. Graphtec Studio works just fine though so I will do like you and just control everything through it. It's odd that I can't get the utility or firmware update to work. Probably something simple I'm overlooking but I'm pretty sure I checked all the simple stuff. I do love this thing, it's so much easier to use than the MH was. Wish I had upgraded years ago. ha!

I run on XP for my FC7000. And had to use Windows 10 for the FC8000. I wouldn't mess with Firmware. Too many people lock their cutters up doing that. We brag about Graphtecs for a reason. They get the job done the 1st time. And settings stay right where there at, when you turn off your cutter.

Greetings. I cannot get Win10 to display my CE5000 in Printers & Scanners. I installed the latest driver from Graphtec website. I then pluged the plotter in and Windows makes the sound that it detects the hardware, but that's as far as I get. I tried a restart and still no go. I also tried a manual install of the drivers, and that also didn't work. I intend to use Graphtec Studio 2 for cutting, but naturally it's not working since there's no plotter installed. What's the secret sauce?

Edit: I installed Cutting Plotter Controller. The functions in there seem to communicate with the CE5000 and does what the respective controls indicate so there is some sort of connection. Just not as a 'printer'.

Edit 2: It seems no one has been able to successfully get this plotter running on Win10 so I have just set it up on a platform I have had success with, which is Cutting Master 2 in Illustrator CS 4 on a Win7 machine, and it's working great.

I had this plotter set up on an XP->Win7 machine with an old version of Illustrator using Cutting Master for nearly 20 years. I've got a decent handle on how everything works in that realm. I know the plotter isn't a printer, but when it's properly installed, it shows up in the Printers & Scanners section of Windows. The plotter is already in GP-GL, as is required for it to have been working with CM. Everything is different on Win10, and I don't want to spend the money to purchase a new version of Illustrator for this one purpose when Graphtec has a standalone solution. The plotter manual was written long before Win10 was even a concept, and in fact says nothing about installing drivers anyway. The software crashes when I go through the plotter selection process described in the software manual. I'm not asking you to do anything you haven't "volunteered" to do. I still have the option to go old school with another computer, but I wanted to try to find someone that's gotten this plotter working under Win10 with Graphtec Studio, and pick their brain.

The furthest back compatibility mode goes in Win10 is to Win 7. I tried that and it didn't help. Compatibility mode has never really worked all that great. It's not at all like running the native OS. USB Printer Support does indeed show up in device manager when the plotter is connected and powered on, but that merely shows that a USB printing device is detected by Windows - that's why it appears and disappears. But that's not the specific driver for the device. USB Printer Support shows up there with any printer, even before the correct driver is installed.

Is there a chance that the cutter was plugged in to the Win 10 machine before installing the driver from Graphtec? Windows has been known to attempt to install a driver that it thinks will work. That Win driver seems to block any other drivers installed after.

If so, I would disconnect the cutter from the computer, uninstall any/all drivers connected to cutter and reboot. After reboot, first install the driver from Graphtec and then plug the cutter into the computer.

Yes, all of them. I have used this plotter for nearly 20 years on an older windows machine. On the Win10 machine, I get as far as E1. The "new hardware found" notification comes up and then disappears after a few seconds, but it never shows Graphtec CE5000.

While I understand that you're not trying to get this done in SBE, SBE serves as a very good way to test a multitude of cutter/plotter issues, including connectivity/communication. I know that for SignBlazer Elements, the COMPort need to be 4 or lower. I would recommend you download SBE, check Device Manager and change the COMPort that Windows has assigned if necessary, then see if you can cut/plot out of SBE. Windows 10 is notorious for automatically downloading and installing updates, which can sometimes cause issues with the cutter. You may need to go the extra step of getting a null modem cable and connecting it to your machine with a keyspan adapter.

If the Cutting Plotter Controller works then the plotters is connected and functioning correctly and the problem is the software you're trying to use. You mentioned the Graphtec software but did you actually install it? The graphatech web page says use Graphtec Studio 2, Ver. 1.0.197 for the CE series. Supported os included windows 10 and 11.

When I send a print job (from SignLab 9.1) the cutter only responds by displaying "Working Laser" nothing else happens. I can only clear that message by turning off the power or pressing the red emergency button.

I don't know anything about Signlab. But did you match the com port number in your cutter software set up to the com port number assigned in your computer device manager? If your connecting thru USB. They must match and be between numbers 1-4. Over com port 4 will not work. You should be sending a cut job, If your cutting. not a print job.

Came for help. I spent a lot of hours looking for the right help, but can't find it, so I succumb to join this forum so I can post and ask the stupid question: How do I make this machine work properly?

I'm on a kayak forum like this one, so I know when newbies come and ask the same old question that has been answered a thousand times, it gets frustrating for the "old timers". After a lot of hours though, I thought it was time to give it up (register so I can post) as I have 3 part time jobs and don't have 30 more hours to try different "search words or phrases"....Maybe you can send me a link I might have missed or just tell me step by step? Ok now....CAN ANYONE BE MY MENTOR??? I have a brand new (to me) Bridge Cutting Plotter PRO365/720/870/1100/1350 (says on the front page of the instruction manual, but I don't know which one exactly I have. The sticky label came off the machine, though the serial number is: 4078 on the silver label. What I think I need to ask though, is since I think this is a 2005/2006 machine, I think I have to use CorelDraw, but what version? I'm assuming that since this is an older machine, it won't work with a newer version of CorelDraw. I have a friend with an older model Cricut try to help me, but the installation disks didn't work and also, we can't read Chinese. Instruction manual was pretty confusing for me also (at least for us). My All-in-one computer doesn't have a serial or parallel port, only usb (which in the manual, this is the LEAST favorable way to go) The installation disks didn't seem to work as far as the drivers I need for it, or at least if there WERE drivers for it, it didn't work (and then it's proprietary, so after the 2 month eval period, I'd STILL be screwed). To figure out which model I have, the built-in ruler goes from 0-28 inches, but the plotting pen starts at 3 inches, so I'm assuming it's actually a 25 inch cutter/plotter? Does this make it a PRO720 or a PRO870 ?? I got this machine from a girl that bought it brand new some years ago, took it out of the box, and never touched it after that.
