Good news,  Werckmeister Harmonies is being released to cinemas again in August, maybe one for a Monday Night?

Hi John,

This is fantastic news! One of the very few films I would consider a 'favourite'. With the length of the film, is there any possibility it could be a Sunday screening or something like that? If not, I am of course more than happy for it to be shown on a film club night, and would love to introduce it if so.

Best wishes,

Connor

Hi John
That is VERY exciting! I was captivated by it from start to finish and will look forward to seeing it on the much bigger screen. It is definitely one of my favourite films.
Julie

Our provisional booking has already been approved. The film is released nationally on August 2nd but I thought it might make a good Monday night film the following month? If you wish to see Sátántangó you might need to head to Glasgow or Edinburgh! The info below is about the Béla Tarr season:

On 💥2nd August💥 we will unleash Béla Tarr's masterwork Werckmeister Harmonies for the first time in 4K to kick off our season of some of the finest examples of modern cinema in existence.

A week later from 9th August we will offer his extraordinary Damnation - also in brand new 4K - plus other titles The Turin Horse (2K), The Man From London (35mm) and yes...Sátántangó (4K).

Our retrospective, titled as below, will be supported by brand new stunning marketing assets including a DCP trailer and physical quad poster; more on these elements soon.

Will Heaven Fall Upon Us?

A Béla Tarr Retrospective

Including Werckmeister Harmonies and Damnation newly restored in 4K

Béla Tarr has been described as “hopeful cynic” and “scatological mystic”, a filmmaker making dystopian fables on the fall of Communism. But his political critiques of a terminally corrupt regime refuse to be pinned down to a specific historical moment and, to the modern viewer, take on a metaphysical quality – a comment on inevitable entropy of all systems, biological, psychological, and social.

With the dream of Liberal democracy faltering, we are offered new utopian visions from the ideologues of Silicon Valley. New sublime objects, the modern equivalent of Werckmeister Harmonies’ miraculous whale, litter the contemporary landscape, whilst the reality of climate change produces ever more weather events akin to Tarr’s unremitting rain, wind and mud.

As Werckmeister Harmonies’ lead character Janos threatens when describing a total eclipse to a group of stupefied drunks, “Will heaven fall upon us?” Or is their hope?

Asked of one of his films at a film festival, "Where is the hope?" Tarr dryly retorted, "The hope is that you see this movie."

Hi John
I think a Monday would be great - quite a few people hadn't seen it when I mentioned it on the evening of the Twilight introduction (again, not THAT Twilight :- ) ).
Best wishes
Julie

Indeed, and I think a few of the customers that night might remember you mentioning it too!
