Hi Everyone
This is loosely about last night's discussion.
One of the things I've always wondered about AI is how well scientists could recreate special senses. As we know, the dog has an incredible sense of smell, and for several years there have been efforts made to recreate that ability.
I hope you find the attachment interesting. It's from 2021 and things have probably progressed since then (there was something in The Guardian quite recently), but I like this article. I love the bit about the dog insisting that the person did have bladder cancer and it was so early on that other methods were not detecting it.

PS I think it would be good if they could replace the dogs with machines, however, as I'm sure the dogs would rather be out doing zoomies or lying on their back on a comfy sofa.

A new system can detect the chemical and microbial content of an air sample with even greater sensitivity than a dog’s nose. Researchers at MIT and elsewhere coupled this to a machine-learning process that can identify the distinctive characteristics of the disease-bearing samples.

Thanks Julie.

And in other, less interesting news, the BBC reported that of the list of this year's best-selling Christmas toys, there's a "robotic dog that passes wind - virtually" (if only it could do zoomies!) and, for the first time, AI is used as part of the game Pictionary.

That's so funny re: robotic dogs... why, oh why?
And AI in Pictionary sounds like cheating!
Don't think I've seen Bad Boys II (or Bad Boys I) - was it 'bad'?
