Trail Updates
West Fork River Trail near Shinnston:
There has been massive trail damage due to a
mine pool.
This has the trail closed in that area, for likely a year or more.
The Town of Shinnston, DEP, and Harrison County have plans and are
moving on a fix but this will take some time. This is very close to
the Shinnston end of the rail-trail near the Veterans Memorial
Bridge.
In the mean time they may be trying to detour trail users from the
Waste Treatment Plant to Shinnston via Mahlon and Pike Streets
Here
is a news article with several photos.
The West Fork River Trail near Monongah is also closed in
one spot due to a landslide. MCPARC has plans to clear it and
hopefully reopen the trail in a few weeks. Stay tuned.
Mon River Rail-Trail:
Tree cutting for Industrial Park Bridge
near
mile marker 13.
The contractor for the access bridge to the Morgantown Industrial
Park has cut trees both near their access road and at the site of
the bridge. This work is finished.
I will try to make sure to email you all when work may start again
and get the word out on our social media.
Cheat River Rail-Trail!
Hopefully the Friends of the Cheat will be making a happy
announcement soon about a rail-trail opening. Yippee!
