Hi everyone,

1) Resurfacing Work on the Mon River Rail-Trail- Opekiska to Pricketts Fort (mile 24-29) has started and will continue through June. The trail is getting graded off before it will have new surface put down. With storms, this means the area is wet and can be muddy. The trail is OPEN but expect it to be a work zone and may have muddy conditions.  Be alert to equipment operators and make sure they see you before getting near equipment.

If you are planning a ride on this section- consider starting at Opekiska or Little Falls and heading north toward Morgantown and staying out of the work zone.

2) MUB Repair to a sewer line should NOT have trail closed behind WVU Reynolds Hall for the rest of this week or next week. (June 18-26). Stay tuned for future closures.

3) Expect down trees with every storm. I believe the rail-trail is currently clear. I will be with limited cell service this weekend as I am camping. As usual, attempt to text me if you discover a down tree. I may not be able to respond to text but will try to get it cleared.

Elsewhere- on the river and lake- Upcoming Morgantown Area Paddlers  (MAP) outings

Wednesday, June 24:  Cheat Lake Backwaters (Rubles Run and Morgan Run) with put-in at Cheat Lake Park.  Be ready to paddle at 1:00 p.m. from the park's boat ramp.  To get to the park, take Rt. 857 north from Cheat Lake to Morgan Run Road (left turn).  Go near the end following the narrow road until you come to the parking lot for the park on your left.  Bear left down the hill to the boat ramp to unload, then return uphill to park.

Sunday, June 27:  Mon River, Walnut St. South with Morgantown Lockage.  Be ready to paddle at 1:00 p.m.  We will go through the lock (see instructions attached) and paddle south for about an hour, returning through the lock.  You must wear a life vest (as usual), and be in a kayak or canoe (sorry - no paddleboards).  If you have not done a lockage,  it's an interesting (and very safe!) experience!
