Good morning everyone,
One of our last projects of 2024 was to install two totem directional amenity signs at Star City.  I am working on the final report to one of the grant funders. If you have time today or tomorrow, please email me- one or two sentences of feedback.  These signs model the Great Allegheny Passage and Sheepskin Trail signs to give a cohesive trail experience.  They alert trail users to upcoming amenities, distances to other destinations, and connections to the Sheepskin Rail-Trail to the north and Marion County Rail-Trail to the south.

These signs are an investment to help with economic impact in the towns the trail is near but we also hope they help with commuting by bike (or foot) to destinations and encourage further exploration at places like the WVU Core Arboretum, Sheepskin and Marion County Rail-Trails, neighboring city parks, and Prickett’s Fort.  MRTC could not afford them without grant funding.

Happy winter’s day, Ella

Happy Winter Solstice!

Thank you to those of you who provided comment on the Sheepskin Trail.  The commissioners voted 2- for and 1 against to move forward with the construction of 1.5 miles along Nilan Road (near Point Marion, PA).  They have an awarded federal grant to build trail but the meeting was contentious with the proposed tax increase in Fayette County.  There were some who attended and spoke supporting the construction of the Sheepskin Trail but also those against it- connecting it to the proposed tax increase.

Today! Two totem directional amenity signs were installed by Mountain Valley Resources at Star City.  These promote amenities nearby and give the distances to each end of the rail-trail and into Marion County WV and Fayette County PA.  We hope to keep adding these as we work on more trailheads.  I will post about them tomorrow to our FB if you want to share or see more photos.   Here is one photo-  https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/9l8teacv68rppd818bjoe/IMG_4711.JPG?rlkey=0zs2o6w0wyr2uhtd1fp83sl3i&dl=0

Thank you all for being friends and partners in trail work. Warm wishes for the Holidays, Ella
