RAIL-TRAIL RESURFACING UNDERWAY
Mon River Rail-Trail CLOSED from mile 3 to mile 6
Now until Friday, September 13 (Open weekends and Labor Day)
A three mile section of the Mon River Rail-Trail, from mile marker 3 (north of Van Voorhis) to mile 6 (Star City) is CLOSED for needed drainage and resurfacing work. Work is underway now and will continue until Friday, September 13. Trail will be open on weekends and Labor Day holiday.
As new compacted stone surface goes down, there will be a HARD CLOSURE and no accommodations for trail users to get through the construction area. Disruptions by trail users has slowed this work so please stay away and choose other sections of rail-trail to enjoy.
This work will restore drainage at many culverts that have been overwhelmed by extreme storms and resurface the rail-trail with compacted stone to the original 10ft width. Please stay safe and keep our contractor safe and stay out of CLOSED areas.
Things to know-
1) This stretch of trail will be open on the weekends. It is still a work area so be alert to changes to the trail surface.
2) You can still use the Van Voorhis Trailhead to use the kayak launch and get on the river.
3) Trailheads around this area- you can get on trail at Edith Barill Riverfront Park in Star City and go SOUTH toward Morgantown from mile 6 to mile 29 at Pricketts Fort State Park. OR head to Point Marion Community Park in Pennsylvania to get on the Sheepskin Trail to access the Mon River Rail-Trail (miles 1-3) and approximately 3 miles of the Sheepskin Trail approximately 3 miles.
