WARNING- there is an active hornets' nest near the bottom of the Collins Ferry Connector, about 600ft from where the connector meets the Mon River Rail-Trail. This nest will be removed TOMORROW EVENING (Friday, July 10) starting at 7:30pm. TRAIL CLOSED while this takes place and aggressive hornets are still in the area. They should disperse by 8:00am on Saturday, July 10. This should only impact the Collins Ferry Connector.
It is hanging at about 6ft from ground and close to the trail otherwise we would just let them be.
Trail Updates
1) Resurfacing Work on the Mon River Rail-Trail- Opekiska to Pricketts Fort (mile 24-29) has stopped for a few weeks and this will start again at end of July or beginning of August. The trail is OPEN but expect it to be a work zone and may have muddy conditions.
2) Expect down trees with every storm. There is currently one near city limits / Uffington, trail mile 12 that we will have cleared tomorrow morning (July 10). Thanks to all that report and send photos to me!
3) Point Marion Park restrooms are now OPEN on the The Sheepskin Trail and finally, after many plumbing issues this year, the Masontown Trailhead restrooms are OPEN on the Deckers Creek Rail-Trail (trail mile 13.5). Thank you to the Point Marion Park volunteers and Preston County Parks and Recreation Commission, at Masontown, for maintaining these trail amenities!
