Cyclists!

TOMORROW, Tuesday, November 18th between 4:30 and 7:30 at Mountainview Elementary School, 660 Greenbag Road, WVDOH will conduct a public meeting on the Greenbag Road project.

Attached is a copy of the handout  on the project design that will be available at tomorrow night’s meeting.

I think you’ll find the maps and alternatives fascinating.  If many cyclists attend, I expect interesting discussions and useful comments for us, the community and the WVDOH.

See you there!

A lot more detail to consider. Thank you for sharing, Frank!
Sorry I won't be able to attend the public meeting. I submitted comments online - seems alt#1 adds too many turns & mileage, #3 is too close to high speed/heavy truck traffic for the average rider, and #2 is a fairly good compromise. Please make sure you all comment!
Ride on

Thanks for replying Christiaan.  Especially for your substantive comments, sharing them with us and submitting them to WVDOH.. Tonight's cyclist turn out was good.  I estimate ~10.  Good discussions while poring over the maps.  I agree with your assessment but the cyclists with whom I talked favored alternative 1 because it maximizes the separation from motor traffic.  Surprisingly, alternative 2 has the lowest estimated cost.  The WVDOH engineer couldn't tell me the expected prevailing motor vehicle speed on the wider 12' travel lanes.  I'm concerned about safety of cyclists merging on to and off of the roundabouts and across the road from the side path at uncontrolled intersections to destinations such as the mall and will inquire about their mitigation strategies.
