Deckers Creek Rail-Trail CLOSED:
Greer Deckers Creek Plant (mile 9.5) to Sand
Bank Road at
Masontown Trailhead
(mile 13.5)
starting Tuesday, April 21
Starting
Tuesday, April 21 the
WV Division of
Highways Cenforce will
be resurfacing the
Deckers Creek
Rail-Trail from the
Greer Limestone
Deckers Creek Plant
(mile 9.5) to the
Masontown Trailhead
(mile 13.5) at Sand
Bank Road. This work
ended last year due to
winter weather. With
this restart, the
rail-trail will be
resurfaced with
compacted limestone,
restoring surface that
has been impacted by
grass encroachment,
erosion, and storm
damage. In addition, a
small section at the
limestone plant
crossing will be paved
with asphalt to
prevent erosion. Most
of this 4-mile section
has not been surfaced
since its original
construction over 20
years ago.
There
is no route through
when trail is getting
resurfaced. Crew will
be working with large
equipment and
typically from dawn to
dusk. Please avoid
this work area for
your safety and the
safety of the work
crew. We hope to have work completed in three weeks
but this is weather
dependent. Disruptions to work can extend the time
for the work to be
completed.
The Deckers Creek Rail-Trail Restoration
project is partially
funded by a grant
from the Federal
Highway
Administration's
Transportation
Alternatives Program
which is
administered by the
West Virginia
Department of
Transportation,
Division of
Highways. The 20%
match to this grant
is provided by the
Monongalia County
Parks and Trails
Levy and donations
to the Mon River
Trails Conservancy.
Thank
you for your patience
as we continue to keep
the rail-trails in
good condition for all
ages and abilities!
Trip planning- This work is happening
