Here is an interesting story about walking the GAP.

"Walking makes you slow down and stay in the moment. You can experience more of life when you're traversing it at three miles an hour!  You can take in everything around you, not just what's straight ahead of you."

I read that article earlier and found it interesting because twice I have backpacked small sections of the GAP on one night camping trips.  I will never care as much for hiking very open trails as much as more wooded areas but over the years have hiked all of the Mon and Deckers trails including one day from Fairmont to my home in Morgantown and one day to Masontown and back from my home.  You see so much more at a slower pace similar to cycling instead of driving.
