Mon River Rail-Trail: mile 3-6
Repairs
to Drainage and
Resurfacing Work
Section
of Trail Closed in
August, except
weekends
A
three mile section
of the Mon River
Rail-Trail, from
mile marker 3 (north
of Van Voorhis) to
mile 6 (Star City)
is CLOSED
for needed drainage
and resurfacing
work. Work is
underway now
until the end of
August which
will have trail
closed in this
section during week
days but open on
weekends. This work
will restore
drainage at many
culverts that have
been overwhelmed by
extreme storms and
resurface the
rail-trail with
compacted stone to
the original 10ft
rail-trail width.
PLEASE-
DO NOT
go into an area with
closed signs. This
is to protect you
and the safety of
the equipment
operators.
Disruptions to work
can extend the time
for the work to be
completed. Find
other places on the
48-mile rail-trail
to enjoy and look
forward to a better
trail experience
when it is
finished. Check
MRTC social media
and website for
updates.
Things
to know-
1)
This stretch of
trail will be open
on the weekends. It
is still
a work area so be
alert
to changes to the
trail surface.
2)
You can still use
the Van Voorhis
Trailhead and kayak
launch to access the
river.
3) Navigate
to other trail
sections- you can
get on trail at
Edith Barill
Riverfront Park in
Star City and go
SOUTH toward
Morgantown from mile
6 to mile 29 at
Pricketts Fort State
Park. OR access the
Sheepskin Trail at
Point Marion
Community Park in
Pennsylvania, from
there you can enjoy
approximately 3
miles of the
Sheepskin Trail and
miles 1-3 of the Mon
River Rail-Trail.
This
project is funded by
a grant from the
Hazel Ruby McQuain
Charitable Trust and
donations to the Mon
River Trails
Conservancy. Thank
