Recently, I've known several people who open enrolled their student into another high school, and then moved them in their sophomore year (and some even in the second semester of their Freshman year) back to Monarch, which was their home school in the first place.  One of the reasons given was the fact that they had no idea what it meant that their student was in a school that had an Open Campus, which means that the student can leave the school at any time, for lunch, for instance, or when they have a free period.

I think that if you know your child is a very strong student academically, this is probably not a big issue.  But the comment from other parents was that they had no idea how tempting it would be for their student to leave the campus, and then just stay gone, missing several periods of classes.

Certainly, it's still possible at Monarch to ditch a class or two, but it is also much more difficult to do.  First, lunches are short and any food is not a trivial drive away, which makes it less appealing to go out for lunch.  Second, Freshmen and Sophomores aren't allowed to leave the campus for lunch.  A police officer once told me that he sometimes catches students trying to sneak out in another student's car, and when he does catch them, he makes them get out and walk back to school.
