This is the first edition of our eNewsletter that is being distributed via our new Google Group based system. Over the past years, the newsletter has been sent through our own local system; however, we felt that the complexity of that system made the sending of newsletter numbers more laborious, and the features available to subscribers were not robust. Google has helped us configure a group system on their software, which allows a much richer set of features on all sides, and we are certain subscribers will be happy with the new features.
As ever, this eNewsletter exists to keep readers informed of new materials on the Monachos.net web site, changes to existing contents, new projects, and materials of directly-related interest. This current newsletter is meant primarily to allow readers to see the new format in its new delivery; our next number will spell out some of the more recent additions and changes to the web site. But for the present, current news includes the following:
New newsletter features available in GoogleGroups system
The eNewsletter subscription interface on the Monachos.net web site now connects directly to the Google system. Existing subscribers on the old delivery / subscription system need do nothing: existing subscriptions were automatically transferred to the new system.
However, all members may be interested to know that your subscription settings are fully configurable through the Google Groups interface, at a special
Group Area for our eNewsletter. You can choose how you want messages delivered; read newsletter archives; change your subscription address; invite other subscribers; create digests and set digest options; etc. As ever, unsubscription from the list remains possible by following links at the end of every e-mail.
Discussion Community surpasses 36,500 posts
A large number of new subscribers, together with a great number of interesting and active discussion threads, has recently propelled the Monachos.net Discussion Community forum's contents to over 36,500 posts. Active threads at present include discussions on the
Apokatastasis of nature; fasting during Thanksgiving; 'Genesis: Truth and Metaphor'; the relationship of 'moral codes' to Christian practice; a reading group for St Theophan's The Path to Salvation
and another for St Innocent's The Way Into the Kingdom of Heaven; and a number of others.
If you've not recently visited the Discussion Community, take a moment to read the new conversations and take part.
As ever, we thank you for your support and patronage of the Monachos.net web site on Orthodoxy through patristic, monastic and liturgical study.
