Details are attached from our MoMo friends at Kelly & Co, of the inquiry into the experiences of Australian consumers with downloading apps, including free and paid apps, and making in-app purchases, on mobile and handheld devices.
The inquiry is said to have been called in response to the rapid pace of the creation and evolution of markets associated with mobile and handheld devices, but appears to have been triggered by recent media stories regarding mobile phone users who have run up substantial bills via in-app purchases. Although the inquiry is framed in broad terms relating to markets generally, the Assistant Treasurer has invited consumers to “name and shame dodgy mobile apps”.
This inquiry is open for submissions until 31 January 2013. Details attached.
