Sometimes... the humans my power killed and turned into weapons show up in my dreams and blame me for doing it. If I just let you die, I have this feeling you'll start haunting my dreams too. I also want to do everything I can to help you stay alive."
The Angel Devil is a unique case among devils, having virtually no hostility towards humans.[2] He considers himself to be a devil first and an angel second, stating that he believes humans ought to die in pain.[3] However, he is later seen apologizing to and comforting certain humans in their deaths, suggesting some form of affection towards humans, which he suggests is a result of being part-Angel.
He dislikes being ordered around and seems to have an aversion to combat, preferring to move an unconscious enemy outside than carry on fighting.[4] His extreme laziness holds him back from being the strong fighter he actually is and he often refuses to work, even claiming to prefer dying to working.[5] When pressed to fight, he shows some reluctance at having to use his abilities and apologizes to the people whose lifespan he has stolen when he uses their lifespan to create weapons.[6]
As a result of his power, the Angel Devil is socially withdrawn and usually is seen isolated from the rest of his fellow devil hunters, with Aki Hayakawa being the only one who has a sort of connection with him as he is the first known human who has not been afraid of touching him.
He is partial to soft-serve ice cream, eating three cones in one sitting and requesting another, but has shown a willingness to eat anything including zombie flesh and the corpse of a fellow devil.[5][2][7]
Angel initially only wishes to die so he wouldn't have to work again, saying that he's always been prepared for the moment he dies. However, over the course of the story, Angel slowly starts to reject that notion and eventually desires to have a normal life like an ordinary human, even telling Aki that he wishes that he would quit his job as a Public Safety Devil Hunter and find another job that would allow him live a long and peaceful life. He also grows to care about his partner, becoming concerned when Makima forces Aki to make a contract with her and attempts to protect Aki from her.
As a Devil, Angel possesses all of the standard devil abilities. In addition, he is distinguished by his unique power to absorb lifespans with a simple touch, which he can then materialize into weapons, and is thus considered quite dangerous. In fact, Angel is referred to by Makima to be Tokyo Special Division 4's second-strongest agent after Captain Kishibe, though his laziness holds him back.[8]
Belair v. MGA entertainmentName:Belair v. MGA entertainmentFiling Date:2009Plaintiff:Butch BelairDefendant:MGA EntertainmentCourt:United States District Court for the Southern District of New YorkJudge:Judge Shira A. ScheindlinEnd Date:November 16th 2011Outcome:MGA won suit
In the late 1990s, American photography Bernard "Butch" Belair created a series of advertisements for Steven Madden shoes. He obtained copyright numbers for his images, including an image named "Angel/Devil Girl".
In 1999 freelance doll designer Carter Bryant drew sketches of for a dream doll line. He was inspired by a group of girls he saw as well as the angel/devil girl advertisement. A friend who worked at MGA Entertainment arranged a meeting between Bryant and MGA who offered him a consulting arrangement after seeing his sketches.
Bryant began working with MGA and freelancers to develop his doll idea. He gave his original drawings and a angel/devil poster to Margaret Leahy. She hung the picture on her wall by her workspace and used it to help create wax models of the head, body parts and shoes of the dolls.
Since Carter had previously admitted to taking inspiration from the Madden poster in the Mattel Lawsuit. The court then had to decide whether the dolls (not the original drawings) where similar enough to the poster to be considered copyright infringement.
Although there are a lot of differences, it was concluded the sculpt was significantly similar to the Angel/Devil poster and if the sculpt was sold as a product it could likely be a case of copyright infringement. However the final painted, clothed and made up dolls that where packaged and sold as final products where not similar enough to be considered copyright.
All four original "Cool Bratz" dolls from the debut line where analysed for similarities in hair, clothes, makeup and shape to the "Angel/Devil Girl" poster, but it was concluded that they where dissimilar.
It was undisputed that MGA was aware of the Steve Madden look and sought to capitalize on it. Although the Bratz dolls may have reminded people of Belair's work, he cannot monopolize the abstract concept of an absurdly large-headed, long limbed, attractive, fashionable woman.

Before buying the villa and moving to Portugal, the whole project of doing so has always been something of a roller coaster ride. We met many dead ends. Many instances of doubt. Many days without a clue how to move forward even when necessary prior steps proved impossible to complete. The birth of the project, the sale of our home in Luxembourg, the move to Portugal and setting up Monte-Bougainvillea is a book we've yet to write. Someday we might. What we did and how we did it would NOT make a good 'how to' guide but does make good humour. Some say we are lucky. We see the intervention of angels.
The Portuguese teller at the Luxembourgish bank and her direct contacts in Faro. My previous employers HR and staff rep. The real estate agent who didn't call for the listing. The lady who signed to buy the house, but never did. The Notaries secretary who saved our file from the police when the Notary died the week we closed. The agent who offered us a personal tour of any villa for sale in the Algarve, over a weekend, in her car. The real estate agent that finally did sell our house months after we'd already moved, in a week, at asking price. French fiscal policy (don't ask). The couple who ran a small caf nearby, for being there, then. Someone's sister's husband's uncle I've never met but who built us a 2'338km bridge. The English guys who packed our stuff. The family that made our very first 'real' booking and remain our top 'returning' guests. Our gardener (the one we pay, not me). The insurance agent got who got it and went to his bosses. My neighbors' electrician. The other insurance agent who got it and just didn't tell his boss. An honest car salesman (really). The young girl who drives up the hill on her moped each day with a big fat smile on her face as she putt putts about delivering whatever fresh produce she can sell. The guy in Africa, who I've only met a few times in the past 30 years and who really funds our survival.
Some go out of their way, others just do their job. Some get something out of it, others don't even realise it happened. Then there are friends and people we just know since a long time, yet have not seen in just as long. All had a major impact at critical times. There's been a lot of those. Instances that are themselves invisible have had positive outcomes for us because of the invisible people involved often doing things invisible to themselves, for our benefit. Angels.
I have held this idea since long ago that angels are not invisible, they are people, like you and me. We are all angels. But only sometimes, in very peculiar situations, the consequences of our decisions create a net positive outcome to someone else that goes beyond anything conscient or intended. Making us an angel to that person in that instant or event. On the other hand, most of us also have a Demon on our shoulder stuffing little devils in all the details that we continuously have to sort out in order to keep the peace. So we are human, thus quite visible. What is invisible about Angels is in the act, in that 'extra positive impact'. Only the benefactor can see the impact clearly, yet, like the new mosquito screens we installed on the apartment windows, they are visibly invisible. You see through them. You may not notice they were not there last year, You may not recognize the angel nor the act, and you may not even feel the impact: no itchy bites from evil mosquitoes. Heavenly.
