Recently, we read a post that highlights the misinformation that is
the world of MOM - Mail Order Manager/Multichannel Order Manager
(M.O.M.).
The tech was asked by the boss/owner to install a new server. I guess,
that the boss/owner believes that the tech has the expertise because
they either installed or maintains their existing peer-to-peer network
(basic home networking skill required) and can install a server now
that they need one. Big mistake!
The tech says OK to the boss/owner. But, the tech goes looking for
help on tech forums where reliabilty on general topics is usually
pretty good. That is how we became aware of the situation. Forums
are good in some areas and predictably bad ideas in others - looking
for advice on changing your oil may be pretty good -- unless you own a
Ferrari. In the post the tech admits that he knows next to nothing
about servers. The best advice is to hire an networking expert.
Networking is best handled by people that are certified, educated and
work with it every day. Look for firms that work with servers every
day AND have one of the following certifications:
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers (MCSE)
- Microsoft Certified Systems Administrators (MCSA).
- Microsoft Certified Master (Server 2008 or SQL depending on MOM
Version)
Put them in touch with MOM Helpers and they will do it right.
Networking firms that do this stuff everyday with these certifications
will cost you more upfront. But, your long-term cost and problems will
be much less.
Additionally, MOM - Mail Order Manager/Multichannel Order Manager
(M.O.M.), cannot perform properly for your business if it is not
installed properly and the data is not properly maintained. Proper
installation includes installing and maintaining a solid network as
one of the primary factors.
You have network or data corruption if:
- MOM runs slowly
- MOM crashes regularly
- MOM operates unreliably
- MOM inventory is inaccurately reported
Yes, MOM has bugs just like any other software on the market. But,
they do not significantly affect 99.99% of the features or
functionality.
In the post, the tech admits to knowing next to nothing about
networking or servers and includes in the post that MOM - Mail Order
Manager/Multichannel Order Manager (M.O.M.), is a terrible piece of
software. And, that is what makes it to the web. Unfortunate!
Attention: Owners, Bosses and MOM Users
Anytime you hear that your investment in software is a waste or that

statement is uninformed. Count on it!
