Sound Forge Audio Studio 16 on WIndows 7 64 bit. Just upgraded from older version of sound forge that worked fine. With V16. while trying to save in MP3 format "An error occurred while saving one or more files. An error occurred while opening a codec." I can open MP3 files without a problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled program. I have cleared out cache in general preferences. HELP. I am in the middle of a project.

If this does not help, uninstall using a third-party uninstaller (Revo Uninstall is recommended) that will remove leftover registry entries and other pertinent data the OS uninstall leaves behind, which is usually the root of recurring issues. Then reinstall.

Hi @LaxMedia...if Revo didn't help, then perhaps you should go into the Internal settings option (you can reach this by clicking: Options > Hold Shift + Preferences > Internal)...then scroll down the list until you find the line 'Activate legacy MP3 plug-in' and write TRUE in the field instead of FALSE. I think this could help...or at least it is worth a try.

That didn't help, but nice to know how to access internal preferences. I use other software for both audio and video editing and also have K-Lite Codec Pack with the professional version of Franhaufer codec. MP3 formatting works fine on all the other software so there is something different with the new version of Sound Forge 16 (SONY earlier version also worked fine) . I am guessing that Sound Forge won't overwrite with the new "special" codec. Does anyone know the actual file name (maybe l3codeca.acm or l3codep.acm ) and location that Sound Forge is trying to install? I probably will have to temporarily remove to try reinstalling with Sound Forge. There are multiple locations for each file.

I am surprised uninstalling with Revo and reinstalling did not help. Did you use the advanced scan mode?
Perhaps the K-Lite Codec Pack is forking things up. Many expert users over on the Vegas Pro forum recommend avoiding it. That said, I had the K-Lite Codec Pack on an old PC when did not cause any issues with SF or VP.

I give up wasting any more time on this. I have tried completely deleting the software and removing any registry entries, deleted left over files etc. remaining even after REVO did its thing. After reinstalling the mp3.dll does not register as a valid codec. I tried copying into System32 and SystemWow64 as where the other codecs reside without luck. I do not know why SF is not using the standard and professional mp3 codecs as the original program did. I am sure my other professional software utilizing mp3 has probably mucked up the deal but it worked fine with earlier SONY version which I am reinstalling and other media converters I use. I will keep the software to do limited work that the out of date SONY software won't do but this is surely disappointing and frustrating glitch. Thanks all for your suggestions.

Not sure but I found out that the developers changed the mp3 codec in SF16. Since Sony SF through SF15, SF had been using the "xing" codec. In SF16 it seems that they change it to FhG (Fraunhofer). If you check the details of MP3 Custom Settings -> Stereo Encoding and Property Marking options are no longer available. BTW this is in SF16 Pro.

_inmm.dll is a suite of tools that can fix CD audio playback problems in several older games. A common problem with CD audio in older games is that it does not loop correctly, meaning the background tune plays once and then stops, leaving the game with just the sound effects. In many cases _inmm.dll can solve this problem, restoring proper sound playback to the game. While the tool cannot fix every game, it is useful in many cases and is always worth a try if your game uses CD audio.

Your first challenge is to download the program successfully. _inmm.dll is developed by a Japanese author, meaning all official documentation for the program is in Japanese. The program itself however is in English. To download the program, visit this page. Look for the link circled in red to download the program.

I managed to fix my games with this tutorial specifically Overboard! and Lifeforce Tenka. Now i have installed Vigilance form Segasoft on my PC and applied this fix the issue is that the music is now playing but there are no ambient sounds nor gun shots or footsteps to be heard. Any suggestions?

It works very well with Driver, Ignition (Fun Tracks) however for Disney Hercules Action Game, the software is able to boot the soundtrack file but since the game only has a unique CDDA big music file, the track is always replayed from the beginning. I wonder if there is a particular option or patch to let the software detecting the audio position sent by the game. Thanks!

This does not work for me, unfortunately.
I was trying to patch my old game of Attack of the Saucerman, when I was finding it failed to loop the background music after finishing a first playthrough of the track.
I tried patching it with inmm.dll, but was running into various errors.

From the output of my cassette deck, I connected a Y cord to the light blue line input on the back of the computer. When I played the tape, it played through the computer speakers, and you can verify the sound quality, track, etc.

Exact Audio Copy is mainly designed to copy the tracks from CDs to file with no loss of audio quality. Looking at the webpage, it seems to be created by one person, Andre Wiethoff. Andre has put a LOT of thought and effort into making a product that is highly accurate.

It was easy to use. I could figure out how to use it without reading a manual. The audio has only one setting, WAV. So it did not require me to learn all about technical issues such as sampling rates etc.

Wave Repair has a lot of tools to edit and fix bad sound. The menu drop downs include the common: File, Edit, View, Help.
Other drop downs include: Play/Record, Markers, Blocks, Position, Declicking, Noise Reduction, Other Effects, Cue Points. Each drop down has many functions to click. So there is lots of functionality to edit sound files. On the webpage, there is a long list of features.

It lists a 4 GB file size limit. This of course, applies to all 32 bit operating systems. But, at approximately 10 megs per minute of recording, it would take over 400 minutes to create the 4 gig file, which is longer than any LP or cassette that I know of.

Audacity is a free, open source, cross-platform software for recording and editing sounds. Audacity seems to be the most popular open source software for recording. It has the nicest look. And the most functionality. It has been in development since 1994, and has a long list of current and past developers. There are forums for support.

Audacity on Windows also requires that you download and install the lastest lame.dll file. This was not obvious without plowing through the installation instructions. You need to go to this webpage. Download file: Lame_v3.99.3_for_Windows.exe, and install it. Not FFMpeg or the .zip file.

You might also get the source code for lame from Sourceforge. But, like so much open source software, the webpage has no instructions for compiling the code on your platform. Nor what the prerequisites are, such as which compiler and version I might require to compile it. Really, why are the instructions not found on the same page as the download?

Check the sound input
Choose the correct sound input from the drop down
Click the red button to start recording.
When finished, click the square stop button.
Menu, File, Export Audio, set options and save to file.
