NOTE: This configuration worked for about a year. It was surviving docker/docker-compose updates as well as traefik ones under v1. I noticed it stopped working today and only thing which happened was I upgraded the host of new docker version (via apt update/upgrade), but I doubt it will the root cause.
UPDATE: I downgraded docker-ce and docker-ce-cli to the previous version and issue is still present. I am isolating problem to the traefik itself? But still makes me wonder what has changed since it stopped working by itself..
I am having service (some client) as a docker container accessing the Internet via nordvpn container (network_mode: container:nordvpn). So far everything works as expected. However, routing to the service via its FQDN registered through labels in docker-compose service section stopped working (gateway timeout). Tried via file settings in toml file but with the same result. If I remove the NordVPN step all works as expected but stops right after I put it back on.. Tried some other different service/client with exactly the same behavior.
Just a note, there is no other option accessing the service this way only via registering it on the particular subdomain. When network_mode: container:nordvpn is used no ports or exposed are allowed. Also you cannot access host network from the container as well - docker limitation on the linux.
Hi, I cant log in the the nordvpn app anymore, nothing wrong with password etc as it works on laptop and phone. Nordvpn says that the android version is too old for the app? Means my box is too old now? How can I get the latest android update?
But what is the latest firmware software update?! I have one from September and thats it. Dont want to buy a new box if i can update software... i have still the nordvpn subscription, so cheaper for a new box if I have to.
For a VPN connection on your router to work, it has to support OpenVPN. Furthermore, it has to support it as a "Client" (as opposed to a "Server") to allow you to connect it to NordVPN servers.
NORD VPN will not work. I contacted the Nord VPN Team, and they told me, that aftwr the updates, they will not work for Android versions ...like 4.4 (formuler z+...Nano...etc) But...there are alternatives
An update following up with a solution. You should be able to use the NordVPN client if you switched to using nordlynx using the command: nordvpn set technology nordlynx. Nordlynx is pretty much built around Wireguard.
@SteamTrain @proudmom52 This whole saga is really disrespectful of customers who use the product for year end tax planning. I have one activation code left after installing it on my 3 devices. The fact that Intuit distributed the bug as part of an update and is unable to provide replacement activation codes... you really have to have lack any sense of caring about users to set that up.
@krochat Yes - the algorithm used to detect a change in hardware is childish. Any USB device (even a printer or an additional drive???), change in VPN..., and now the installation of a buggy update. Seriously. I'm not a criminal. I'm a customer who pays retail price and just wants to use the product for a valid purpose within the terms of or the user agreement. It's not me that's violating the terms right now. It's Intuit.
The new tax product that comes out in November is almost useless for doing that...every year....and usually isn't substantially useful for that until it's actually into the next year...Jan or Feb. Might be lucky and get some crude estimates with it by mid December, but you can't trust it ,one whit, this soon.
The What-IF worksheet in the prior year's desktop software (2020 in this case) is almost always better. Yeah, there's usually some yearly change that the What-IF won't cover for the next year, but it's usually close enough for most planning purposes. At this point, the major one I could see going screwy in the What-If , would be the advanced tax credits that some families may be getting and how that will balance out (or not).
However, I may have had it activated for my desktop machine when I first installed Turbo tax Premier and Business. I don't remember exactly when I turned it off (edited to add second comment 6:56 on 11/20)
I think everyone who does their own finances online should be using VPN, so it's no surprise the most of us early adopters have it. What's sad is that TurboTax activation doesn't play well with VPN so we have to make sure its deactivated when starting TurboTax.
@SteamTrain My experience with year-end tax planning with the TurboTax "beta" has been varied, but last year (2020) I used it to do the maximum Roth conversion I could and still stay in my tax bracket the last week of December and was only off $8. Realizing capital gain/losses and Roth conversions / IRA distributions are things that have to be done by 12/31, so I use the best tools I have at that time.
There was a new update on 12/1/2021, the second since the unfortunate 11/17 "deactivation" update. I started up TurboTax on my 3rd install that had not been started since 11/11. On startup it updated with a 10/20/201 update. This date is prior to any previous updates. After that update TurboTax started and was still activated. I checked for any additional updates and there were none.
I called support on 12/7/2021 and was able to get a TT Deluxe 2021 Fed+State pushed to me. It requires a remove / new install for the new download - the new activation code didn't work with previous federal-only installation that was deactivated.
Yes, thanks for the reminder. And yes, I did have a flash drive plugged in when TT asked for activation on the third machine since I'd forgotten about this quirk. I also had it plugged in when I installed and activated the replacement TT. I just unplugged the flash drive and the replacement TT is still activated - whew! So many things to remember - no VPN, no external drives...
After 25+ years as a customer, I expect that this will be my last. There are other capable options and although I respect Intuit's need to protect against unauthorized users of their product, the buggy November update broke the product so that legitimate, paying customers could not use the software. It took nearly a month to resolve it.
Nordvpn now uses wireguard as well. They just call it NordLynx. It is relatively new for them. I thought i would mention it because it seems a little quicker. Then you have two ways of connecting to nordvpn. If nordlynx isnt working for some reason then use the openvpn
After upgrading the kernel to 5.6 wireguard was available. NordLynx works when I manually connect from the command line but does not auto-connect after reboot due to "Temporary failure in name resolution" (once again).
I noticed that it overwrites /etc/resolv.conf after reboot with default 192.168.1.1 . It did not do that with OpenVPN.
When connecting manually from the command line then /etc/resolv.conf populates itself correctly. After reboot it once again sets itself back to default 192.168.1.1
The problem came back after a couple of days. The /etc/resolv.conf file did not contain the NordVPN dns servers as NetworkManager seem to overwrite it sometimes after reboot with the default setting (192.168.1.1)
This line fixes it:
Simply put, your computer will set up what it needs to do automatically to connect to the internet. This 192.168.1.1 is your router address. And you do want your computer to talk to the router. Networkmanager will place that info on your resolv.conf file. So in fact, this ip shows that NetworkManager it is working correctly.
As well nordvpn knows what it needs to do. When you do "sudo wg" with wireguard as an example, it is a simple test to see if the tun is established. Same if you do a " ip addr show". you will see a tunnel has been established. It will say tun or nordlynx depending on which mode you are using.
the 103.86.96.100 and 103.86.99.100 i think you can use in obfuscate mode? maybe. You dont need it. However, inside the app nordvpn-bin you will find that it has one that starts with 99.xx.xx.xxx that it uses to create a tunnel to nord servers, within the app. This is why you dont need it. It kind of compounds the problem when you mess with dns settings (i think).
But it looks like your configuration might be correct and you are fighting a "network-online" problem... even though you have set up your service file. I'm wondering if those options really mean what you (and I) think they mean.
Don't ask how, but I parsed the server endpoints of over 5000 nordvpn servers. They usually are something like ar15.nordvpn.com for example. I'm trying to use nordvpn servers as request proxies. I know its possible because nordvpn has a tutorial in setting it up the same way in browsers using port 80. Nordvpn only allows 6 simultaneous connections at the same time. My problem is that what im doing is for each server, i will send a request with that vpn proxy. After the request is sent it finishes. But for some reason even after the request finished the vpn connection somehow seams to be still connected because after the 6th request it fails. I know nordvpn only allows 6 connections at a time but this is one connection after another. The weirdest part is that they immediately go through again after i restart the script(until it reaches the 6th request). So its not nordvpn rate limiting but somehow requests are keeping an established connection.
What ive tried so far is asking r/learnpython. They were useless. The python discord got me far but never ultimately solved the problem.I have specified for the connection to close in the request header and even used request sessions, the with syntex for those sessions, and manually close the sesson even though with should take care of that. Disabling stream also doesnt do anything.
