Router Passwords is officially the most updated default router password repository on the internet. To find the default password of your router select the manufacturer from the drop-down and click the Find Password Button.
What happens when your router sours up your day, especially if you work from home and more often than not, most households end up contacting their Internet Service Providers to solve the issue, without carrying out the basic checks on their router. Here we will go through some of the common router problems and their solutions.
router password
I recently installed the latest Netgear firmware on my R7000 and then used the GUI to restore factory settings. I've set a new password and am using the router, but every time I try to log into the GUI it keeps giving me this after I submit my user/password combo:
If I refresh the browser and then log in again, it usually lets me in. Though at the moment, I'm in the GUI but I can't do anything because each of the pages under Advanced are showing me the same Router Password Reset message. What's going on and how do I get this device to settle down and accept the fact that I have logged in with my true user/password?
After you factory reset, when you open up the browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1 or
routerlogin.com you'll be directed to use the Nighthawk app or if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you'll see a link that says I don't have this app and select this, this will start the web based setup wizard. Walk thru this.
Your router is one of the most important pieces of hardware on your network. Since it is so critical, it is a common target for people to attempt to hack. This is why it is extremely important to secure your router with a complex password.
When you buy a new router it comes from the factory with a default username and password. These can be either printed in the instruction manual, on a sticker on the router itself, or on a card in the box with the router. Most default passwords are pretty simple and not considered secure.
Try logging in to your router using the default username and password. You can use our list of default passwords below to find the default password for your router. Start by choosing your router from the list.
If you still can't login to your router even after trying the default username and password, you may have to reset your router password. Our guideReset Router Password To Default Settings can help you with that. (Use this as a last Resort!)
After you log in to your router you should change the default password to something more complex. Routers are a common entry point for attacks on the internet and through Wi-Fi. Securing your router is an important step to securing your network.
The list below shows all known router-passwords as they are assigned at the factory. These are the default passwords that are used to log in to a router for the first time. If you have never changed your router's password then this list should help you log in to your router. Simply select your router manufacturer from the list below to display the default router username and password.
It was only when the extender just identified on my mac as Netgear_ext that I pressed the router WPS connection button to re-establish the ISP user _ext which was then picked up correctly by my mac but demands a password to connect.
Further to my earlier post just to be clear, when selecting the _ext connection shown as an available internet connection, instead of connecting directly, my i-mac demands a password before connecting, which when I enter it correctly states that it is invalid.
Hi, Thanks for this, when I first switched on again after my holiday the extender just identified on my i-mac as Netgear_ext rather than with the ISP user details so I re-connected the router to the extender and it now identifies with the correct user_ext address, but I have not done a factory re-set if that is what you mean. Should I try that?
A little more detail - as advised on other threads I have logged into the router address and noted the devices connected to the router which include my i-phone, my partners mac and ipad and the smart tv plus my netgear extender. All except the extender work fine without needing a re-connect password.
Second network extender arrvied today (on back of last night's success and wanting additional coverage) - when i go to
mywifiext.net, I no longer get the Auto Set-Up prompt. I have disconnected first extender, as I was going bonkers trying to dfferentiate between the two. I have reset router. I have tried to reset extender, but it doesn't feel like the reset button is compressing and i don't know how to check
Please carefully review the installation guide for your unspecified wireless extender. Typically you have to establish a wireless connection from your computer to the new repeater with the NETGEAR_EXT (or the like) SSID. Now the
mywifiext.net will work and give you access to the new extender Web UI.
Show what you get instead if things are unclear. A screenshot will help.
Reminder: This extender must be placed in a way where it can still "see" and reach the primary router. Don't try to daisy chain multiple extenders.
Since a recent update to the tether app (don't know when exactly), the tether app is refusing the router admin password. I know the admin password is correct, as I am able to access the admin interface for the router via a web browser (any of them) installed on any PC or mobile device and putting the router IP address in the address bar. I have tried deleting all data in the app, and removing/reinstalling the app and the same thing happens. I get the same thing on both Android and iOS. I have tried setting the admin password to '1' to ensure there is no possibility of mistyping the password on the app, and unsurprisingly (the password I entererd was infact correct) the tether app still reported incorrect password. I am at a loss, on what to do with this app, it's broken completely, and I find it more 'friendly' to use than the browser interface. As I see it, the only choice is to abandon the app until such time as TP-Link fix the app, but as my attempts to contact support and explain the situation resulted in my being told the only choice (as I was unable to access the admin pages on the router, which is incorrect) was to hard reset the router, I have no expectation that any action will be taken.
js001 I've encountered exactly the same thing updating my routers firmware yesterday. I didn't even update the tether app I don't think. Web portal works fine. App says incorrect password everytime.
smounche I'd since contacted TPlink customer support and the only answer he kept coming back to is a full factory reset of the router which I'm not willing to do. Even backing up and restoring after a reset will restore it to the point in time with the errored password it looks like.
smounche That's exactly the same advice I was given, and I do not see how it can possibly help. I've just given up with the tether app, and admin the router via a browser. Which works perfectly on the same devices that tether does not.

Don't give up ! what tp-link saying about factory reset to the router is BS!
there is definitely a problem with the app. in my case it's not a router but this device I got from my ISP;
as you can see the app found the device, trying to enter the password won't work.
i tried several times to factory reset the device - didn't work.
so factory reset your router is BS
smounche The app shows to use the support pages and forum. The help page in the app also shows the same advice as already given out, hard reset the router, but is predicated on the basis that the password is unknown, rather than the app is broken.
My question to the group is why i can't reset my HT2000W router password. I need to reset the password but nothing which includes pressing the reset button for more than 30 seconds works. I tried to power up the router while pressing the reset button but, that does not reset the router password to admin nothing i have done works. Any suggestions? And before I did the power up reset option I disconnected the power for over 1min. I emaile tech support on this problem however all they said was press the reset button. Suggestions?
I have done everything to the router as instructed and STILL NOTHING as far as gaining access to my router through the admin command. I have reached my wits end with this router and believe that it is defective and needs to be replaced. Where do I find the correct channel to file a complaint in this matter.
I have a Linksys wireless router but I can't figure out what the password is. I just got a new laptop and I can't connect via wireless. My old laptop seems to have the password set in the security settings but it doesn't show me the characters (just show dots) any help?
Are you referring to the router's web management password? If so, you'll probably have to reset the router to the factory default settings and then log in using the default password to reconfigure things.

I'd (like someone already in here) recommend router reset, but with a warning: do it only as a last resort. Router reset will reset it to factory settings. Which is not always what you have it on now (as some ISP's modify the firmware to suit their own needs ... like mine for example, adding annex2 which makes it differ from the original version).
