to Toxic Indoor Mold Central
As many of you know, I have been working for the past two years with
New Jersey legislators to develop laws regarding indoor mold and
bacterial growth. Many are becoming very ill, permanently disabled,
losing all their possessions, pets, and at times their lives due to
lack of public awareness, medical ignorance, and of course the absence
of any laws which would serve to prevent much of this.
Due to what happened to my family and me, I endeavored to put laws in
place to help protect others in the future from suffering this plight.
The good news is that my negotiations were successful and the proposal
I drafted was accepted and used as a blueprint to develop
comprehensive legislation. Unfortunately I did not have total control
and some of what I wanted is not included. However, I am happy to
announce that on January 11th, 2011 there were two Bills presented.
One Bill paves the way for renters and others to have rights and legal
avenues to take should mold be present or suspected. This will force
the testing and remediation of mold infestation. The other will
empower Community Affairs to set up standards to ensure mold safe
housing and other structures. The first Bill is Bill # S2632 the “Mold
Safe Housing Act”. The other is Bill #S2633. You can view these bills
by going to http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/ ; under “Bills” click on
the years 2010-2011, and by clicking on “Bill Number”, then inserting
the Bill numbers.
There is still a way to go. These Bills still need to go to committees
and of course voted on and passed by both the Assembly and Senate and
then signed by Governor Christie. I would like to ask all of you to
help support these Bills by sending letters to NJ legislators
highlighting the importance and severe need to get these Bills passed.
You can share your own experiences and knowledge as to the devastating
outcomes to exposures inside homes, schools, work places. Perhaps you
just know someone who is ill from mold. Either way, your support is
much needed and very much appreciated. The senator who sponsored the
Bill is Senator Sean Kean 11th district. His address is 1955 Route 34,
Bldg.2A, Wall, NJ 07719 732-974-0400. His email is sens...@njleg.org
You can also write any senator or assembly person in the state. We
need many of them to succeed. The president of the senate’s name is
Stephen Sweeney. His contact: SenSw...@njleg.org
