Ouredition of the modern classic is newly (and exclusively) remastered by James Plotkin and features the entire score plus bonus tracks split across four sides of vinyl. Featuring all new artwork by Matt Taylor, housed in a spot-varnished die-cut O-Card, and pressed on 2x 180 gram colored vinyl.

boygenius celebrate five years of their iconic debut EP this October, capping off a triumphant year in support of the record. The trio of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus headline sold-out performances at Madison Square Garden in NYC and Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles this October as Matador prepares the release of limited edition gatefold yellow vinyl package to be released in December.

In advent of not being able to tour this year (and having to change my release strategy of leaking my album as a collection of singles), I decided to sell it on vinyl as an exclusive email list offer! I wanted you guys to have exclusive first rights to my album (in a deluxe vinyl package) before it's officially released.

This album marks my best and most earnest work to date and I'm so excited for all of you to hear it! This is an exclusive offer only available to you guys on my email list and the album won't be listed on my website until the last single is released.

The British first pressing is phenomenal and affordable. Vinyl is quiet and the sound is dynamic, spacious and smooth, and at a reasonable price! I haven't listened to this reissue, I have the excellent UK edition and don't feel the need to. I think only AP at 45rpm can bring some improvement here.

About those late-'70s/early-'80s pressings: the two "oil crisis" instances in the '70s (along with the general economic malaise of the decade) lead to US record companies trying to make use of reground vinyl (from returns), to cut costs: the result was records with surface noise, right off the first playing (and some instances of defects like that label one: they apparently couldn't be bothered with trying to de-label them, before grinding them up).

At that stage, I was getting into punk/wave, with many of the artists only available via UK imports: considering how expensive the albums were, it was a relief to find they were not full of reground vinyl (confirmed by the "blacklight test", that detects it), compared to many of the domestic releases I bought in that period.

Sound quality of this pressing is almost indistiguishable from the Grundman 24/192 digital file and a little brighter from the also excellent and somewhat quiter older 24/96. I haven't heard any of the "originals" nor can I imagine how could this edition be bettered by the forthcoming UHQR. 45s generaly tend to sound more open than 33.3s (not unlike hi-res compared to 44.1) but this has nothing to do with "special editions". In my experience excellent vinyl sound has nothing to do with price or hype.

Have you heard the previous UHQRs? Can't Buy a Thrill, Countdown, and Aja are excellent. (Pretzel, not so much) I'm psyched to read this review, but I am not buying the LP--I am confident the UHQR will be better.

Aja from a friend and as far as I can tell it is excellent - but not really different from the 24/192 digital file; a bit more open I guuess. Anyway I would go for the UHQR if money wasn't a concern. By the way I have recently bought one or two $17 sealed records of usurpassed sound quality.

the "originals" were cut from n-generation copy tapes and not from 1st generation masters - inevitable for mass production vinyl records of yore. For similar reasons modern reissues are cut from digital copies or produced in limited quantities in case of AAA. "Orinals always sound better" simply means "I wanna stick with my memories". Nothing wrong with that of course as long as it stays in strictly personal territory.

Listening to it now. Very, very nice! Compares favorably with my old RL version and maybe a little clearer around the margins and though roughly similar has a slightly different set of strengths. Snatch it up for the $29. Best Buy. 8.5 or slightly better for SQ is correct.

[A note on the notes: In the Deluxe lyrics/narrative booklet Ryan Clark nicely encapsulates the meaning and inspiration behind each song and additionally provides songwriting/musical exegesis on each track. Essential]

Musically speaking, this song is probably my least favorite on the album, just lacks the ingenuity and impact of everything else here. Clark confesses in the liner notes this song was a late minute edition and I have to say that while the song is solid musically, it feels a bit like filler.

Lyrically, I love the sober nature of this song. Sometimes believers think God will just make life perfect, free of pain and full of love and a clear path. Not so fast. But if we wait upon the Lord, it does become manifest in time. Sober humble faithfulness trumps vapid rituals of duty and narcissistic perpetual optimism every time.

Musically, this is a doomy, beautiful ballad in the essence of Demon Hunter lore. As Clark points out, this is the longest song the band has ever released, which parallels the long journey of life; the extended outro section with different drum fills and rhythms underpinning the melodic guitars represents a musical highlight on Exile for sure.
