Willy to revive Goa Rajiv Congress?

Panjim: With the Nationalist Congress Party [NCP]  scheduled to hold its state workers' convention on Saturday, reports were doing the rounds on Friday that former NCP president, Wilfred de Souza is considering reviving the  Goa Rajiv Congress Party (GRCP) that he floated in Goa before joining the NCP. When contacted, de Souza confirmed that many of his supporters are approaching him o revive the GRCP but said he has not taken a decision yet. He, however, admitted that he has contacted the Election Commission of India asking it to clarify the exact political status of the GRCP. On June 9, 2009, de Souza quit as president of the NCP Goa unit
on the eve of the Party's 10th anniversary.........

COMMENTS:

This piece of news item has come  to us at the Goa Su-Raj Party as a surprise. We had thought that the Rajiv Congress Party had disintegrated into an unrecognizable mass,  having been deep frozen in the morgue for all these many years.

It was when the newly formed Goa Su-Raj Party was in the process of being registered with the Election Commission, New Delhi in late 1999, that  we had a messenger deputed by Dr. Wilfred de Souza to tell us that it is very difficult to register a new party with the Election Commission, New Delhi, that we would have to make umpteen trips to Delhi to meet with the Secretary, Election Commission, and would have to engage a lawyer whose charges would be a minimum of Rs. 20,000/- per  hearing, that we would be spending a lot of money to stay in Delhi and this could extend to 5 or 6 very expensive trips. "Why go to all that expense and the trouble?" " Why don't you guys roll the Rajiv Congress to life  which is already registered  and is for the taking?"

It so happens that at that time, Floriano Lobo was the President of the GSRP, being its founding President. And it was he that the messenger delivered the above message, the messenger being one of the GSRP's executive members who we believed was a 'mole' of the good Doctor, very strategically planted in the GSRP. After having listened carefully to the message, Shri. Floriano Lobo had taken an undertaking from this special messenger of the good doctor that he would repeat the 'response' word by word to the good doctor and only when this was agreed upon, the response was delivered

Tell the good doctor that we are absolutely pleased to received a gratutious offer, and that we are happy that the good doctor bleeds with concern for the nascent GSRP. That we thank him profusely for the offer.
But 'NO' -- We shall not take it.

But instead we advise the good doctor to defrost the Rajiv Congress Party overnight, double fry it over the extra heated pan and have it for breakfast. And we wish him good appetite.

That we shall go ahead and register the GSRP with the Election Commission of India, without spending a single pie apart from the Rs. 10,000/- required as registration fees and without stepping into Delhi, ever.

And this is exactly what we did. We did the registration over the phone with the excellent co-operation of  the good K S Wilfred, Secretary, Election Commission, New Delhi  and via 'courier services' to the extent of having the deputy chairman of Ambuja Cement, Mr. Kaul, represent the Party in person for the final hearing at Delhi. Mr. Kaul is the honorary member of the GSRP for this reason.
