If you are an American, you can join the class action lawsuit by calling the law firm of Narancic & Katzman in California and speaking to Perry Narancic.

Phone 650-814-7688. www.nk-pc.com/

Unfortunately, I was told by Perry that Canadians cannot participate because of the difference in our securities laws. I was advised to lodge a complaint with the Securities Commission in my province, which I am doing.

If you live in Ontario, go to www.osc.gov.on.ca/

I would love to hear from anyone who decides to take action.

Thanks for the information Grace. When I was communicating with Vishal he said that Canadians & Americans could both join the class action. I guess that’s not the case.  I did launch a complaint with the SEC in Alberta as well but it’s important to note that the SEC will not be involved in recovering anyone’s money. They are looking to press charges under the SEC laws so forming a class action for the Canadians that were impacted is likely still a good idea but I didn’t find a local lawyer willing to work for a reasonable retainer.  Don’t know if Canadian lawyers would be willing to collect after the results of the lawsuit an difficult to imagine if there is anything left to recover given all the time that has passed. I’m willing to look into this further if there is enough interest and willingness to work together.

Regards,

Judy

Sure I just compiled a few law offices that specialize in class action and/or securities law. I can give then a call regarding our situation but it would be good to get a number of albertans and canadians that want to be involved. Having on 5 people is a far cry from a proper class action. We have to come up with a way to get a proper tally without getting blasted by emails that's not the most effective way. If someone can create an online registery (I think google has something for free) to collect names and contect info that would be good.

Also it just occurred to me that there actually is a law firm in canada representing FIC against GIW, does anyone know their name? I think they are out of Vancouver. There was talk of them taking on a class action on behalf of all FIC investors but I haven't heard much since.

Thx,
Judy

Hi Judy

I am an investor based in Vancouver and would like to participate in a class action as well however I have not heard of such firm representing FIC.  I did ask for more info from FIC regarding their lawsuit but they indicated that they could not reveal much info...sounds sketchy.  Please keep me informed of your conversations with the law offices.

Hi Judy, I live in Calgary and put out money for 2 foreclosures.  Until now I thought Canadians would be included in the US class action so haven't pursued anything in Canada.

Here is a link to the FIC dockets but beleive that the FIC lawsuit is only for the FIC investment "fund"!  FIC was promised a "finders" fee for every house sold at FIC seminars which they turned into a fund and sold to FIC customers.  To my knowledge it does not include any of us who actually put out the $$ for foreclosure purchases
