I've come across a passage that was attributed to Wittgenstein; but,
which I do not recognize and for which no citation was given.

can anyone cite the source of this quotation or state authoritatively
that Wittgenstein did not say any such thing.

>"Someone who dreaming says, 'I am dreaming,' even if he speaks audibly
>in doing so, is no more right than if he said in his dream 'it is
>raining,' while it was in fact raining. Even if his dream were actually
>connected with the noise of the rain."

[attributed to Wittgenstein as his last (philosophical) words; but, no
citation.]

in any case, can anyone explain how saying 'I am dreaming' while
dreaming is (from a Wittgensteinian point of view) anything out than
completely accurate?
