Dear all,

I was thinking if we have experience in using MoFEM  on Windows OS. I am asking this because I may have a student interested to use it but he has only Windows laptop. I know we can create Colab code for specific purpose or add them to cactus but I was thinking that if there is any chance to have it working on Windows would be good to have some kind of information for everyone documented here.

Thank you all

Hi,

You can install Windows on Ubuntu Windows,
then you run the install script.

If is UofG student, we can add him to Jupiter hub, and he can run code there.

Regards,
Lukasz

You could also use Docker or Ubuntu Virtual Machine on Windows.

There is a playlist on MoFEM YouTube channel called MoFEM tutorials and there are some videos going through various ways of installing Mac and Windows (first video in playlist). Docker installation on windows is also mentioned on MoFEM website (installation with docker). If they want, they can also have dual boot on their computer so it runs Windows and Ubuntu and you choose which one when you start your computer. I also think that some students had MoFEM installed on a USB stick with Ubuntu on, although I think this option is fairly slow. I used dual boot of Windows and Ubuntu the first time I used MoFEM and I was satisfied with that option.
