Hi Lukasz,

I hope you are enjoying your Christmas,

I am unable to get the derivative of the compliance function (to calculate the fracture energy as a function of crack length) but I have a the crack lengths for load. However, the crack length seems to be incorrect as the total crack length is less than the depth of the beam - even though in Paraview it shows that the crack goes very nearly through the entire depth. I dont think the units are incorrect as it seems to be reasonable numbers, but off by an non negligible amount. Is there anything I could have done that is wrong?

Ive attached the graphs for D = 92.8 for reference

kind regards,

Marcus

Hello,

Marcus, those calculations makes only sense for big samples. For small samples, there is no physical crack, all is fictitious since you have cohesive forces acting all the depth of the beam.

Regards,
Lukasz
